Anderson scores from open play!

Another come back against Wigan reserves was the platform where Anderson found the net from open play for the first time, even if it was only for the reserve team.

Wigan had taken the lead in the first half from the penalty spot, but Anderson drew United level five minutes before half time. He found space in the middle of the box, dribbled past a couple of defenders and rifled a shot past the ‘keeper at his near post.

I was an impressive all round performance from the Brazilian, who has struggled to make an impact on the first team recently. His passing was very good and he took every opportunity to get involved in our attacking moves.Anderson

His goal follows a stunning free kick goal in the Audi Cup against Boca Juniors, but he is yet to find the net in a competitive match. He has shown great composure to score a penalty in both the Champions League final and Carling Cup final, but when he gets in front of goal in open play his composure seems to desert him.

Hopefully this goal, and the performance, will kick start his season and he can force his way into the first team and develop into the player we all think he can.

A goal at Spurs after the international break would be a good place to start!
