Bitter Arsene Wenger in hypocritical rant

posted on 31/08/09

Arsene Wenger has reopened the rivalry with Sir Alex following his side’s 2-1 loss at Old Trafford on Saturday.

The Arsenal manager has been moaning to the press about how the nasty Manchester United players kept fouling his innocent Arsenal players and it ruined the flow of the game.

“I have seen a player who plays only on the pitch to make repeated fouls,” Wenger is quoted in the Guardian. “Look at how many deliberate fouls some players make and get away with. I think that’s a bigger problem [than diving] because it cuts the flow of the game. And people come and pay to see football. They do not come to see free‑kicks.”

Maybe if his players didn’t fall over every time a player came near them there wouldn’t be so many free kicks.

Eboue’s dive epitomizes every Arsenal team Wenger has ever built. Pires, Vieira, Henry and many others were prone to diving and this Arsenal side is no different. Eduardo was at it against Celtic. Eboue did it on Saturday and so did van Persie, whose dying swan routine has almost been perfected.

Wenger should look a little closer to home before he starts criticizing other teams, because his players are the worst cheats in the league at the moment.

It smacks of bitterness and anger. 2-1 Arsene. Better luck next time.

  1. As a Man Utd fan you should be suitably embarrassed – Ronaldo doh!

  2. muwahahaha, who writes your scripts , old trafford theatre of queens, you were battered shitless by a team you can only dream about , rooney dived , as usual , dean gave you your customary penalty , we should have had one and fletcher sent off

  4. Oh dear, bitter Arsenal fans have come in numbers :D

    2-1 lads.

We’ve had a few divers at Old Trafford, I can agree to that. but Arsenal have divers throughout the team and always have under Wenger.

Its very hypocritical for Arsene Wenger to complain about teams fouling on the same weekend Arsenal got 6 bookings.

    Same old Arsenal, always cheating.

  5. The Fletcher penalty incident is irrelevant since you scored almost directly after that and fletcher would never have got sent off for that, yellow card at the worst. Also Rooney quite clearly did not dive, the contact is obvious to all except those who want it to be a dive and so there minds will distort the facts that are so obvious to the rest.

  6. Both teams have been guilty of diving, both past and present. Everyone at or associated with Arsenal knows Eboue is a diver, personally I hate that side of his game and the one on saturday was a disgrace. Rooney’s was not a dive, clearly a penalty due to a terrible decision by Almunia, but Rooney has been very guilty of it in the past, ending the unbeaten run. It’s fair to say that the better team lost as can happen in football as Man Utd got played off of the park for the majority of the game, Typically it took two stupid mistakes from Al and Diaby to turn the game.

As for the ref, he had a shocker, he was card happy on some occasions but blind on others, some consistency would be nice.

  7. zuco, what are you talking about? United players never dive, they are brave British lads. There are definitely contact or they have just slip or lost a footing whatever, or else UEFA should have banned them of 2 match already, no?

  8. Same old United, always find a way to glorified itself.

    Joseph Aug 31st, 2009 -
  9. Fletcher tackle on Arshavin definitely “had a piece of the ball”, his contact with Arshavin is just “carrying on his momentum”, his handball was “purely accidential”, right?

  10. Every manager is hypocritical, get over it!

  11. Almunia tackle on Roonie definitely ” had no piece of the ball”, his contact with Roonie is definitely “not carrying on his momentum, his stuck out belly meeting Roonie foot was “absolutely intentional”, right?

  12. By the way, this post “smacks of bitterness and anger”. You were outplayed but managed to win with a bit of fortune. It strikes me that you’re looking for a reason to say ‘evil’, ‘cheating’ Arsenal deserved to lose anyway.

    Chris Aug 31st, 2009 -
  13. Not at all Chris. We were very lucky to win on Saturday, but Arsenal only have themselves to blame. It was two mistakes by Arsenal players that lost them the game so this little rant from Wenger is a bit strange to say the least. That’s why it smacks of bitterness. He knows his team probably should have walked away with all 3 points and is bitter that they walked away with nothing.

  14. Has this been posted on an Arsenal site somewhere? Where are all the gooners coming from? :P

  15. Fair enough, but I’d say that’s a very natural reaction. Also, some of Arsenal’s 6 bookings were outrageous. Yet, persistent fouling from Fletcher, as he mentions, went unpunished. That’s what he’s complaining about. One last thing, your line “Eboue’s dive epitomizes every Arsenal team Wenger has ever built.” is well below the belt and way off the mark. That’s like me saying all United’s success over the last few years has been built on Ronaldo’s diving, and taring the entire team with the same brush.
See you at The Emirates, should be another interesting game. :)

  16. Arsenal newsnow. :)

    Chris Aug 31st, 2009 -
  17. I wonder why we didn’t foul much at all and still manage to get 6 bookings. May be we the refs were frustrated about United not having creativity in the midfield area.

  19. Joseph, it’s not the number of fouls which attract yellow cards, it’s the nature of the fouls. And let’s not forget one of the yellow cards was for diving ;)

    -zuco- Aug 31st, 2009 -
  20. Actually, it is in the rules. Persistent fouling is grounds for a yellow. OK, really off this time…

    Chris Aug 31st, 2009 -
  21. zuco, I believe you understand putting up “Same old Arsenal, always cheating.” is not your normal, reasoning self. So why do it? We all can have a bit of self-conscience and we know we should not blame the corruption of the world on one person (Eduardo) or one football club.

    Joseph Aug 31st, 2009 -
  22. You should sign up on the forum Chris. We’ve got a few Gooners on already and you seem like a reasonable chap ;)

    Arsenal 2 – 1 Arsenal

  25. A few of reasons he was bitter after the game:

    1. We threw the game away with individual errors.

    2. We got screwed by the ref (not for the first time at OT), best example being the ridiculous and disrespectful treatment dished out to Wenger himself. If an Arsenal player kicked out at a United one like Rooney did Diaby it would have been a red card. Where was the Arsenal always cheating chants when Rooney thanked Diaby for not going down?

    3. The disgraceful chanting/abuse from so called Man U fans for Wenger. No one from United has said a word about it and the TV people have ‘helpfully’ turned two deaf ears to it as it doesn’t concern a British icon (e.g Fergie). I seem to remember plenty of comment about the treatment Fergie received last October at the Emirates.

  26. Eboue is a diver and is despised for it by Arsenal fans. Rooney, Ronaldo, Van Nistelrooy are divers and have been championed by your fans. Who’s hypocritical. Your supports “paedophile”chants are a disgrace to your club. From a club and collection of fans that demands sympathy and silence when remembering the Munich tragedy.
Whos the pervert a cerebral football man with a longterm partner and teenage daughter or a pudgy striker who pays to sleep with prostitutes the age of your grandmother or a dozy centrehalf who gets involved in gangbangs with teenage girls when on holiday.
The reason the turned down Fletcher penalty is so important is that it is endemic of decisions that happen at Old Trafford all over the pitch throughout the season. Yes we scored soon after. But how many times is a penalty or foul not given when a team doesnt score striaght after it.

    dan Aug 31st, 2009 -
  27. Man u did not play well but they won the game, why, because they are champions & that’s what champions do, they know how to win games ugly, remember the barbatov & nani miss, the score line should have been more. The Fletcher incident is all the arsenal fans are moaning about, if the penalty was given & u manage to score, it will not change the final score line, just accept you were beaten by the champs.

    Reubenred Aug 31st, 2009 -
  28. Eboue dived, as did Rooney and Eduardo and Ronaldo, Drogba, Gerrard and countless others week in, week out. It happens, we as fans can’t change it. What we can do is stop chanting “Sit down, you paedophile” at Arsene – it’s f^&%$£ ignorant and a total disgrace. Was that in the paper? Was it f%^$. If the ‘respect’ campaign has any chance of success, refs must take action against vile morons who sing this stuff….if Arsene was English they wouldn’t stand for it and if Rooney wasn’t English, he’d be sent off every week…

    James Fernie Aug 31st, 2009 -
  29. isn’t it great that the majority of comments on a Man U forum come from Arsenal supporters? Some time in the next decade when the internet reaches the north and Mancs learn to type / spell / construct a coherent sentence, parity may well be restored.

    James Fernie Aug 31st, 2009 -
  30. Please Man U peops, Rooney did dive. If the contact came after he was already falliing its a dive, he wouldve hit the ground regardless. I would agree that Almunia had no right charging at him that way but a dive is a dive.

Also why are you guys jumping on Eduardo and booing him? that shows no class at all. Recently you guys have one of the worst divers in history to thank for your recent titles, so get a grip.

Eduardo is a class act, one supposed dive with intention to fool the ref does not make a cheat.

Its been said already that the better team lost but yes Arsenal only have themselves to blame but we are on our way up.

I know Man U fans are a bit worried about this team that played them off the park without most of our senior players.

    Arsenal for the PL!

    WATCH OUT!

    Paul N Aug 31st, 2009 -
  31. Just remember Arse Wenger is just trying to deflect attention away from his teams own short comings. Jose did it week in week out at Chelski, one of his players would do something outrageous and Jose would do something equally outrageous to deflect attention.
Mr Plattini is coming for you Arse, your team have been doing for a decade and at last a “grown up” at UEFA is going to question your morals.
