CONFIRMED – United sign Owen!

The official site is reporting that the free transfer of Michael Owen to United is now complete.

Michael has undergone medical tests today at Carrington and at hospital and is understood to have passed with flying colours.

Sir Alex
Michael is a world class forward with a proven goalscoring record at the highest level and that has never been in question. Coming to Manchester United with the expectations that we have is something that Michael will relish.

Michael Owen
I had just begun to talk to other Clubs when out of the blue Sir Alex phoned me on Wednesday afternoon, invited me to have breakfast with him next morning during which he told me that he wanted to sign me. I agreed without a moment’s thought.

.

This is a fantastic opportunity for me and I intend to seize it with both hands.

.

I am now looking forward to being a Manchester United player and I am fortunate that I already know so many of the players here. I missed pre season last year and am pleased that I will be starting at Carrington from day one.

.

I want to thank Sir Alex for the faith he has shown in me and I give him my assurance that I will repay him with my goals and performances.

I can’t say I’m over the moon with this, but a proven goalscorer in the ranks can’t really be a bad thing. The fact that he didn’t cost us any money and will reportedly play on a pay as you play deal means most of the risk is eliminated.

I still think more strengthening is needed though, particularly in midfield.

  1. Fantastic signing.. Owen will provide the spark if needed off the bench and allow us to rest Rooney and Berbatov when needed, provided he’s fit..

If he isn’t, then considering if it’s a pay-per-play contract, we wouldnt suffer much..

  2. I don’t think he’s the type of the player we need. He used to be an out-and-out striker with his blistering pace but due to numerous injuries he’s lost his pace and at Newcastle he was playing more of a second striker. don’t get me wrong, i still rate him as a player. i just think he wont compliment the strikers that we’ve got. since both rooney and berba both likes lying deep i think we need someone who’s strong to hold the ball up or a speedy finisher getting behind defenders. definitely a bizarre signing.

  3. Well this is a world class sign for free… we get to pay nothing on a player who wants to prove him self again…
we need such a player and we need this spirit in our team. I never wished a player from the enemies plays for us but this player i always wished to see him in united’s kit.
Welcome Owen you will see what a football really means in this club and forget the shitty clubs u played in before :D

  5. Michael Owen is a top striker! We have needed a goal scorer in the box since Ruud left. He will get 15-20 goals this season no problem!

  6. owen is top player, but united must buy some useful players has good talent, creative.
like elexis sanches from udinese. or sergio aguero/douglas costa.
in the midfield side hargreaves i dont think he will be back in the pitch.he got severe injury, he can’t tackle any more.
in order to strength in the midfield we need to buy one of these players.
daniele de rossi from roma. veloso. wesley sneidjer.

    VDS
    REFEAL VIDIC RIO EVRA
    VELOSO/DE ROSSI
    VALENCIA CARICK ANDERSON/ SNEIDER
