Sir Alex Ferguson believes this year’s title race could be the closest ever.

The match between Manchester United and Chelsea at Old Trafford means both title contenders have their own destiny in their own hands.

In simple terms, if either United or Chelsea win all of their remaining games they’ll be crowned champions in May, but Sir Alex knows it’s never quite that simple.

“At the moment it is looking like the tightest Premier League we have had,” said Ferguson.

“It is very tight. We only have eight games left. Chelsea have nine. We are all involved in Europe. Chelsea also have the FA Cup.

“I suppose the simple way for us and Chelsea to look at it is just to win all our games. But life is never that simple.”
