| I'm of the opinion that ball retention is very important in football. English players generally are poor at keeping possession of the football. That's why I like Carrick - he keeps the ball moving and, usually, retains posession very well.
Unfortunately for Carrick, decision-making is also a key part of football and you can't tell me that with players like Rooney, Ronaldo and Tevez there is no movement/options up front for players like Carrick to look for.
I think Carrick has the potential to be a wonderful player but he needs to know when to play the ball forward. If he developed an instinct for the killer pass then he could become a top class midfield player and let's face it - if he can't do that at United he can't do it anywhere.
