Why dont people like the AFL?

Aussie rules (AFL) is the most loved game in Australia and us aussies dont understand why the game cant got internationally, when its such a great game and its getting more exciting as the game is becoming faster. We get crowds of 100,000 on big games and the atmosphere is electric. The only real reason why ppl play soccer in aus is because parents dont want their children getting hurt in games like aussie rules... So do you European's enjoy the game?

Since it seems you haven't gone back to your other thread. I just thought I'd post my apology here. Sorry for what I said about AFL, truth is I like the game. I was just joking with the stuff I said about AFL players. It's just more of a niche market, if you get what I mean. Australians grow up with it. In Europe and South America they grow up with football. That's all. By the way I live in Sydney so I grew up with AFL too.

There is very little coverage of the AFL over here in the UK. None on terrestrial TV and the odd game on Sky. But to be fair most sports do not generate Worldwide interest.

The Super Bowl is watched by 1 billion people Worldwide but the only professional league is in America. There are few countries who take baseball, basketball and ice hockey seriously too outside of the North Americas.

Cricket, rugby union and rugby league are only played by a small number of countries.

In fact, for me, the only team sport that has truly captured the imagination across the World is football.

I like watching the AFL when I catch it on the tv. We see gaelic football
over here which has its similarities and is equally as tough to play.
You get the violence in both codes, which at times can make for some good
viewing ;-)
I saw a lot more of it late at night back in the day. I remember teams like
Essendon, the Lions, hawthorn, Collingwood and of course the Sydney Swans.
Ive had a lot of mates live in Sydney and they love the Swans lol.

Its a very physical and fast game and can be great to watch.
It doesnt really get that much coverage over here but I have a lot of time
and respect for your national sport Nirk.

I played Aussie rules football for two seasons in the AFLG (Australian Football League Germany, Germany's top division in football) for the Berlin Crocodiles and football is really great. And I scored a goal. Oh yeah, it's a very hard game I got also so much injuries like a broken finger. But to be honest I think rugby is more interesting for me.

its because we don't get it on tv enough here .. whereas we are forced to have neighbours, home and away etc in the schedules
