I guess when you pull together a team from what's left when you tally up all the injuries, then it would be a miracle if you won. Still, I'm disappointed that England lost to Australia today:

Not sure whether to laugh or cry! Another English player is injured, and the replacement is somebody nobody's ever heard of! (ok, not quite everybody!)

BBC SPORT | Rugby Union | English | Doran-Jones set for shock debut

Paul Doran-Jones is a young prop who is on the books of Gloucester Rugby, and to quote from the above article, "The other coaches didn't know what he looked like until Sunday night ...." Yikes! He'll likely be on the subs' bench in place of the injured Bath prop, David Barnes.

Good news for England - Toby Flood, the Leicester fly-half, is on his way back from injury. He's the obvious choice as understudy to Jonny Wilkinson.

BBC SPORT | Rugby Union | English | England 16-9 Argentina

Not the finest game of rugby ever played, but at least England came through with a victory. They beat Argentina 16-9 yesterday.

England face New Zealand this weekend. Errrr ..... good luck. I think I might bet a million quid on the All Blacks to win that one, and if England upset the odds, you won't see me back here again!!

    Here is the Elite squad:
    England Elite

Martin Johnson has made some changes for Saturday:

BBC SPORT | Rugby Union | English | Shaw & Tait back in England squad

Simon Shaw and Mathew Tait are back in the 22, in place of Courtney Lawes and Andy Goode. Shaw should start with Deacon moving to the subs' bench, and Tait offers cover from centre, to wing, and fullback, while current inside centre, Shane Geraghty, is a proper fly-half who can shift position if Jonny Wilkinson goes off the pitch.

Well, to be fair, nobody expected an England team full of "reserves" would be good enough to beat New Zealand. And so they lost, but not apparently as bad as expected:

BBC Sport - Rugby Union - England 6-19 New Zealand

I had thought about having a bet on the All Blacks, but the odds were 1-10!! No way I was going to lay down a big wad for meagre returns, even if it was guaranteed!
