Micheal's Golden GR-EIGHT !!- Swimming

Micheal Phelps won his first Gold last night and he was awesome !!

Broke the world record by 1.84 seconds in the 400m Ind Medley !!

The record for one Olympics is 7 gold by Mark Spitz in 1972.

Phelps is in 8 events in 8 days and 8 Golds maybe.

He must swim a total of 37 miles to do it.

I hope he makes 8 and think he will.

How many do you think ?

He's gonna go 8 for 8. He's probably the pride of the USA at the moment, btw Michael is spelled with the "a" before the "e"

Men's 4x100 metre freestyle relay.

Was without a doubt, the best sporting even I've ever seen. The top SIX(!) teams broke the previous world record. The previous record was broken by FOUR SECONDS. Two world record splits as well. Prior to the race, the French anchor-legger, Alain Bernard was asked about the American squad: "The Americans? We're going to smash them. That's what we came here for." Bernard had his shot to prove his own boast when he was given a full-body length lead, after Cullen Jones had slowed the Americans down greatly. However, he was caught in the final strokes by Jason Lezak, whose anchor leg of 46.06 seconds was the fastest relay leg in history.

Results (times beating previous world record of 3:12.46 in bold)
USA 3:08.24
France 3:08.32
Australia 3:09.91
4. Italy 3:11.48
5. Sweden 3:11.92
6. Canada 3:12.26
7. South Africa 3:12.66
8. Great Britain 3:12.87

Congrats to the new world record and world champions: Michael Phelps (47.51) Garrett Weber-Gale (47.02) Cullen Jones (47.65) Jason Lezak (46.06).

Michael Phelps is now 2 for 2 on his quest for 8 gold medals, and has won the two deemed hardest.

3 Races - 3 Golds - 3 World Records !!!

Michael Phelps stormed to victory in the men's 200m freestyle swimming, claiming
his third gold medal and third world record of the Beijing Olympics.

Phelps, 23, finished nearly two seconds ahead of South Korea's Park Tae-hwan in
a time of one minute 42.96 seconds.

The American owned the previous record of 1:43.86 and now has a joint-record
nine Olympics career golds.

Phelps's compatriot Peter Vanderkaay took bronze, while Britain's Robbie Renwick
finished eighth.

"I just wanted to be out on my own which I had done by the 100 metres mark,
that was my goal," said Phelps, who led from start to finish.

"I was out in open water and I was in the middle, which makes it difficult for the
other guys to see me.

"I knew Park would have a strong last 50 metres, so I had to keep my focus and
concentration."

Phelps has already triumphed in the 400m individual medley and 4x100m
freestyle relay and looks to be improving with each race.

The 200m freestyle has a medal which eluded him in Athens when he was a
bronze medallist behind Australian Ian Thorpe.

"Phelps swam so fast," said silver medallist Park. "It is my honour to compete
with him."

Phelps's ninth career Olympic gold draws him level with Mark Spitz Carl Lewis,
Paavo Nurmi and Larysa Latynina and keeps him on course to beat Spitz's 36
-year-old record of seven golds in a single Games.

Racing out of lane six, Phelps quickly surged into the lead and led by a full body
length halfway through the second of four lengths.

Phelps will race for his fourth medal on Wednesday in the 200m butterfly, yet
another event in which he holds the world record.

He advanced to the final as the fastest qualifier just moments after receiving his
200m freestyle gold medal.
