Good news for the Czech hockey!
He was always our first choice - he is experienced, successful coach AND has excellent relations with players (including the older ones, who had not wanted to play under the previous coach Hadamczik)

From today, there are lots of superb hockeyists who still don't have contracts for the upcoming season and who therefore became free players.

Among the others:

Jaromir Jagr, Joe Sakic, Sergej Fjodorov, Mats Sundin, Peter Forsberg, Mike Peca, Markus Näslund, Brendan Shanahan, Andrew Brunette, Marian Hossa, Teemu Selänne, Wade Redden, Oleg Tverdovskij, Jose Theodore.

This could be the line up for an All Star Game

From this list there are a few of them who might retire from the game. Sundin is one who could retire but I think he'll play another season or two, Peter Forsberg is another one who might retire because of all his injuries.
Teemu Selänne will probably retire ..or will he continue playing for the Ducks? Jagr have gotten a $uper deal from Avantgard Omsk in the Russian league and maybe the two Russians (Tverdovski is born Ukrainian) might move back home to the rich Russian league.

There are rumours that Sundin might play with Jagr in Rangers (Jagr's long-time hockey friend Martin Straka has moved to Pilsen, Czech Rep recently). Jagr still prefers playing in NHL, although he really liked his spell in Russia.
Maybe P. Forsberg will play in Sweden?

I mentioned Tverdovski because his blade shape and angulation is my favourite one (along with Sakic's).

Well..the Swedish players future is very unsure. I guess all is waiting for a big $ offer..besides Forsberg. Well maybe him too.

His feets is killing him and have kept him from hockey for most of last season and have been a plague for him for the last 4-5 years.
He havent given a good hint yet about his future but I think he still hope to play in NHL next season or retire. Last season I think most of us here in Sweden thought Forsberg would play for his home town team Modo but he made it clear that if he wanted to play in NHL and not in Sweden. He even thought of retire if he couldnt play again. Thats why I dont think he'll be playing in Sweden ever again. Which is sad, he deserves to get a chance to win a domestic title to be amongst the big guys when it comes to win titles. The domestic trophy here in Sweden, World Championship, Olympic Gold and winning the Stanley Cup.

Sundin said just a few days ago he's condidering a move to Montreal. At least there's been a contact and what I understod even a contract suggestion from the Canadiens. But he also said its not 100% sure he'll play next season. He will take a few weeks off to get a rest and think about the future. Playing in Sweden isnt an option if you ask me. If he's not playing for Canadiens or Rangers which also is an option I think Sundin will retire. Remember he's born 1971 so he's 37 and I think he can see the end of his career coming closer. Its his way he talks about the future and talking to the family first, that makes me think so.
Im not sure what the Maple Leaf fans think of him moving to Montreal to play for them. Maybe Mats will be forgiven if he make the 'impossible' move to the rivals. The rivalry between the two teams/cities have been massive in the history. How do they feel in Toronto to see their capitan play in the wrong shirt? But he got the biggest recognition a player in NHL can get by getting the 'give him a chance to win the cup, by trading him to a better team'-go ahead by the Maple Leafs fans.

I heard Markus Näslund have sold the house in Vancouver so one can assume he wont stay there. Where he'll end up I dont know. He's greedy so I dont care about him. He was once seen as a better player then Peter Forsberg.

Uh...the Stanley Cup Champions have signed the Slovak Marian Hossa. They are getting even more tools in the tool-box. They are serious about defending their title.

Scary!

Now we know where his next destination is...Markus Näslund signs for NY Rangers. He got a two year contract.

Is Jagr leaving?

I heard Montreal is interested - and they have money, because M. Sundin is not likely to come to Montreal.

Last statement by Sundin is that he wants time to make his mind up. A $20M deal over two years with Canucks was turned down. Is that a hint that he'll retire.

Mike Sillinger got an odd record in NHL btw...

Hes been playing for 12 clubs (so far). He got drafted by Detroit Red Wings and have since then played for Anaheim Mighty Ducks, Vancouver Canucks, Philadelphia Flyers, Tampa Bay Lightning, Florida Panthers, Ottawa Senators, Columbus Blue Jackets, Phoenix Coyotes, St. Louis Blues, Nashville Predators, New York Islanders.

Jaromír Jágr has just been transfered to Avantgard Omsk. It's a 2-year deal with 1-year option. I wish him best luck in Russia, but I'm sad he won't enlarge his record in NHL.

Not very surprising that he moves to the Russian league.

NHL with salary cap and the signing of Näslund (even if he had to accept a wage drop) and the other rumours around the club it'll be expensive to keep a happy Jagr at MSG.

I hope we'll be able to watch some of the games from the Russian league again the forthcoming season here in Sweden. It'll be interesting to see all the Swedes, Finns and Czechs that has moved there to earn a last fat pay check before hanging up the skates.
