In light of the recent end of season party having taken place at the Emirates Stadium, I was reminded of times gone by when Arsenal have... shall we say....'faltered'.
I found this poem which i wrote back in October '04 in the days after the glorious 2-0 victory over the gooners. Hope you enjoy! It makes me chuckle anyway..
'Arsenal's 50 Game Unbeaten Run'
The run is nearly 50, as they arrive at the Theatre Of Dreams,
They'll never lose a game again....or so it seems,
65 thousand voices light up the stretford sky,
In 90 minutes time Arsene will wonder how....and why,
Arsenal start the game brightly, but it's Utd who will end the mighty,
Campbell gets his timing wrong,
Mr.Riley points to the spot,
The dumbfounded gooners wonder 'will it be 50 on the trot?',
Up steps Ruud Van Nistelrooy and he DOESN'T hit the bar,
50 games unbeaten is just a bridge too far,
Wenger cant believe it he said " there hardly was a touch ",
Amazing coming from the blind man who usually doesn't see much...
A minute left to play and smudge is on his own,
He caresses the ball square and Rooney strokes it home,
The ball is in the net once more,
And the Old Trafford faithful roar,
Captain Rio is our star performer,
As the Utd title challenge grows ever warmer,
The whole team were fantastic,
In the absence of the mighty Keane,
And we're left with one of the greatest nights Old Trafford has ever seen.
