I was born in 1992 so I don't remember much before 1999, so I probably will miss out some better players but here goes:
------------------Schmeichel-------------------
---Neville-----Stam--------Vidic-----Irwin---
---Beckham---Scholes---Keane---Giggs---
--------------Cantona---Solskjaer-----------
Beckham gets in ahead of Ronaldo for me as he was my favourite footballer/childhood hero.

Rooney would get the nod ahead of Ole because you want to be bringing Ole off the bench, Rio in instead of Stam but Vida was a touch call with Bruce but because of the partnership i didnt want to break it up

Sownak where was Ruud Van Nistelrooy?
I put in Ole mainly cause of his important goals, and unbelievbale finishing. And well Dwight Yorke cause of that amazing 98/99 season. but yeah it was a big decision between Ruud and Dwight

Rooney has the potential to be in that but i just prefered Ruud to give more of a balance.

I think 99% of people here would be agreed on The Midfield of Ronnie,Keane,Scholes & Giggs...
I'd have Rooney & Cantona up-front....Gary & Irwin at RB/LB....as for the Central...No clue. It'd be Rio & someone. Couldn't really pick a bad one for this position, since they're all fanatastic...

p.s it was a tough call between rooney and cantona but I feel on the basis of Rooney's general team work and performances in the big games especially in Europe has been superior to cantona who afterall couldnt makes the france national team despite his successes for united.

Unsurprisingly Ferg, your team is spot on......
bar one player.....
I know your a big Rooney fan, but to have him in ahead of Cantona is
surprising to say the least. Don't get me wrong Rooney is a great player
but Cantona was a genius. I think you over rate Rooney somewhat.
You make good points to have Rooney in ahead of Cantona, but I reckon
Cantona would make the Top 11 every time. I'd have him in my top 11 United
players of ALL time.
Not sure about Heinze on the bench either......the traitor.....
good call with Huges though....I cant believe I left him out....:o

I've been reading a lot of these and some are just daft, most are spot on to be honest.
1. SCHMEICHEL (OBVIOUS) i didn't see any Van der sar's which is good tho he's great too
2. G. NEVILLE (we shouldn't even be discussing this)
5.Ferdinand ( I was too young to really see Pallister in his prime so im going with what i know)
6.STAM (i've seen a lot of Vidic support and a lot of Bruce but honestly I can't remember a time Stam put a foot wrong, he was almost perfect. Vidic has his moments of madness and Bruce was maybe a year or two before my time as a Man U fan).
3.IRWIN (Evra is great but Irwin was an automatic selection and still would be if he was Evra's age)
7. This is tough for me. Beckham was fantastic. He's the reason Yorke and Ruud were so successful but Ronaldo is incredible it's so hard to choose between them SO..........
RONALDO -scores more and is still quite creative so JUST beats out Beckham
18. SCHOLES NO QUESTION let's move on
11. GIGGS (why bother discussing this)
16. KEANE NO HOLDING MIDFIELDER EVER HAS BEEN BETTER
10. RUUD- JUST CLINICAL 44 goals in one season speaks volumes
7. Cantona (the king one of my idols, the greatest)
Subs:
1. Van Der Sar
2. Brown
3. Vidic
4. Bruce
5. Evra
6.Beckham
7.Yorke
8.Solskjaer
9.Rooney
10.Cole
11 FINALLY -----ROONEY
a lot of strikers on the man u bench but hey i love them all

cheers Jazz. I know I may the only one so far to have left out CantonA and am not trying to be different but Eric seems to be like the Pope infallible as far as this forum or united fans in general are concerned. i would be the first to recognise that he was the catalyst for our success over the last 15 years but a bit of revision is no harm.
He thrived in the Premiership with the extra yard of space afforded him therefore he was simply the best- no argument there. However in europe he was simply non existent and consistently failed to make any impact except against non entities like scandinavian teams.I remember one of his last games was the ecl semi final against dortmund where he missed a hatful of chances when we really needed him to shine.
as regards Rooney I know you are a big fan of eamonn dunphy and he always sings wazza's praises and i would be on his side there. rooney's form dipped in 2006/2007 due to i can only put it down to disillusionment with the game in getting suspended, injuries post wolrd cup and fegie constantly playing him out of position.I don't believe I overrate him ev en if his finishing is average at best. don't forget also when cantona was playing we were the only show in town. Now we have chelsea, arsenal and to a lesser extent liverpool so we have stiffer competition which imo puts both cantona and rooney's standing in some perspective.
still also think heinze for all his betrayal in leaving us was as fine a defender as I've ever seen albeit for virtually only 2 seasons especially his first season. hard as nails. good going forward and great enthusiasm . as good as evra is I still think heinze was a better player in his time here;) ;

I have to admit, you have a point about Eric not performing to his capabilities in Europe. He could have done more maybe and was guilty of missing some chances, especially in the semi you mentioned. I still think Eric could influence a game on his own better than Rooney could now. We know Rooney will be at United for many years to come and by then will have hopefully gained his legendary status as one of the best strikers of his generation. Then maybe he would be worthy of this 'Top XI' team. For now Eric is a shoe in, but I can see your reasoning to some degree.
As for Heinze, admittedly he was a savage player, brave as anything, but I cant bring myself to even like the traitor anymore. I disagree with your last line though. Evra is far better in my eyes and has shown more consistency this season than Heinze did at United.

My toughest one to decide between was Irwin/Evra for LB. Evra ranks for me as better than Roberto Carlos in that LB position.
Picked Rooney and Cantona as I get goosebumps just imaging it!!!!!!
