The big debate in probably everyone's mind is that after Van der Sar retires, who should be given the responsibility of the goal ? Can we rely on Kuszczak to take up a more regular role, or could Foster be trusted with a step up job ?

Do we need a new keeper ?

I'm sure we had this thread before but I cant find it :-P

No need for a new keeper.....Edwin has another season or two at the very top.
Kuz adn Foster are both very capable number 2's and will emerge more
over the next few seasons.
I eventually see Foster as our regular number 1.
But next season one of them needs to go on loan.

I want Foster because he's English and can develop him into no.1 keeper in England and the world!

I haven't seen enough of Foster to tell but PIG isn't anywhere near good enough

obvious answer - Ben Foster, the guy is class and i think he could go on to be one of the best in europe.

The way I look at at Ben Foster is that he is in the middle of PIG and VDS in terms of his style.

Kutzczack is exceptional at reflex saves, yet he is hopeless at dominating the area, and has poor kicking. Plus he is mistake-prone

Foster has very, very good reflexes, plus he is very good at dominating the area and has exceptional kicking and distribution.

VDS is good at the reflex saves, and is brilliant at throwing, and dominating his area. His kicking is a bit shaky at times though.

this is the way I see it.

in order:

reflex saves:
1 PIG
2 Foster
3 VDS

dominating the area:
1 VDS
2 Foster
3 PIG

kicking:
1 Foster
2 VDS
3 PIG

quick distribution and throwing
1 VDS/FOSTER
2 foster/VDS
3. PIG

experience and communication
1 VDS
2 Foster
3 PIG

This is just my opinion though.

 Crikey ya really thought about that TheManc lol
good post.....

Some people seem to think we need a keeper but we have loads of them....
even Heaton is off on loan to get experience and Zieler is also coming
through the ranks. Most teams can only dream of having keepers like us.

There's simply is no big debate.

Ben Foster on an operation table in surgery is a better keeper than Kuszczak!

Next season we'll see Ben slowly take over from VDS. In fact the competition from Foster might even mean that VDS has to up his game, but I think Fergie will give Foster a lot of games and I can't wait to see if he can take the number 1 spot from VDS.

While Watford might have been relegated it wasn't because of Ben Foster. This guy was amazing while on loan and in the single game against Derby this season he made a couple of vital saves that ensured we walked away with a 1-0 victory. Without a doubt he is the goal keeping future of England.

Ben Foster is a more talented goalkeeper than than Kuszczak in my oponion,Foster has very, very good reflexes and height needed for setpieces challange.Kutzczack kicking is a bit shaky,en sometimes prone to errors.

VDS has another easy season at the top then we should ease Foster in by that time he will be 27 and peaking. But for Kuszack i don't the chance wiil ever come sorry!

Foster will be United's next keeper when VDS retires and has the potential to be the best in the world. In the meantime Foster and Kit Kat can share the No2 spot.

Ben will eventually become No.1 and TK will probably still be around to take care of the No.2 spot.

I definatly don't think we need to go out and buy another 'keeeper though. VDS has another 1/2 seasons left in him at the top level, and buy that time I think and am hoping that Foster will have stepped up to the plate.

It would be nice, just for once, if people checked to see if this topic is already open:rolleyes:

ben foster is better than Kuszczak. Kuszczak is not confident.

ben foster definitely better. he is more steady and calm compared to kuszczak. shaky kuszczak never fails to trigger my heart attack during matches. ben foster on the other hand is an exceptional keeper who could be the next david seaman for england, great prospect!

As much as I like Ben Foster, I'm not too sure about his ability at the top level. I sincerely hope he proves me wrong and he gets more games next season to give him more experience.

I think Van Der Sar has another year at the top, maybe two.

Maybe Fergie will look at bringing in another keeper at the end of next season, depending on how Foster develops over the next year or so.

As far as Kuszczak is concerned, I can't really see him as number one. He's a very able back-up keeper but I don't think he'll ever be anything more than that. Certainly not at United anyway.
