I don't like comparing players usually but I recall I was in a newspaper office and we were having a debate who was the better player in their career. Out of 6, I was the only one who thought Solskjaer was better.

Sheringham was fantastic playing in the hole behind the main striker. He could bring other players in to the game was great in the air and was fantastic in the air. However, he lacked that killer pace at times and his goal scoring record wasn't amazing, particularly in the treble season.

Solskjaer was very intelligent also though, observing from the bench at times and knowing where the weaknesses were in the opposition. He was one of the best finishers I have ever seen. If you see his goals, he almost hit the ball so fast the keeper doesn't have enough time to react. He had 2 great feet and wasn't bad in the air also.

Maybe I am a bit buyest because I have always loved Olly but I genuinly thought he was a bit better than Teddy. Wat do yous think?

I love Teddy Sheringham, don't get me wrong, but in my opinion he's not fit to shine Ole's boots.

It's a tough one really. We all want to say Ole cos he is a legend,
but Teddy was a very accomplished striker for clubs and country.
Ole was a predator with a ruthless finish. Teddy was an all around great
player on the deck and in the air, so its close.

Ole was more a super sub.

I don't ever remember Teddy being one of our starters either.

true but he was only with us for 4 years. he was a regular at Spurs and other
clubs. Ole was more or less the supersub for a lot of his career.
Ole is more important to United obviously but in their prime,
Teddy was the better player for me.

Both legends in their own right, I think Ole's injury problems really hurt him from becoming one of the all-time greats. Teddy did do it longer that's for sure.

ole all day long , i was never a big teddy fan before he joined us i thought he had the acceleration of milk float going uphill.
when he joined us i was dissapointed at the start because he came with a big reputation for his passing ability , i was dissapointed he couldnt pass wind .
he did get better and better and scored the equaliser at the nou camp , the first time i sung his name with feeling .
he was always my fourth choice behind cole , yorke and ole and i wasnt to dissapointed when he left , before leaving he did write a few good pages in our history so for that i thank him

Are you kidding me?

This is not even a contest. It has to be OGS!

A lot of people;s memories get hazy about the 98/99 season, but I remember quite clearly that Sheringham was crap.

By that I mean, there were so many instances of the midfield working tirelessly to get the ball to Teddy , only for him to squander pocession, by passing the ball straight to an opposing player or playing a bad pass back to a team mate, which put them under pressure and broke up the momentum of the attack.

There were a lot of times, I wish I could dive in to the TV set, walk on to the pitch and slap him up the cranium with an aluminum baseball bat (that's Primus, BTW)

On a career as a whole, teddy did well, but Ole achieved more and scored vital goals.

Teddy might have done well at Spurs, but he didn't produce the same form with us. .... And who cares what he did at Spurs?

i only knew ole was a very worthy united player.
as for teddy, i dont really know him as i started watching football only after the 2002 world cup. cant see why he was being so celebrated as a player as he didnt impress me with the other clubs he was at.

My opinion is similar to stretty's. Before Sheringham joined the club I wasn't a fan of his. He played his role as 2nd striker very well but I felt he didn't score enough goals and I prefer more dynamic strikers.

Sheringham scored some very important goals for us, especially in the 1999 FA Cup and Champions League Finals, but he'll never be as much of a legend as Ole.

they were close. bit of a wrong comment.

before we signed him he was a class player. Remember Euro 96.

I think Solksjaer edges it but he will never get the true respect he deserves as he was always considered the super sub and he was so much more than that

Took me a few seconds to remember Teddy even wearing the red shirt. I think of him as a tottenham player mostly. Ole is a united legend to me though!

I'd have to go for Ole.

He's the model professional on and off the pitch.

When he came on you always knew he was gonna
get us a goal or come pretty damn close.

When he was in a shooting poition he always hit the
target and either scored or forced the goalkeeper to
make a save.

Not often did you see an Ole shot go wide or over.

He also played on the right wing or us for a while
where he kept Beckham out of the team for a bit.

He was a great crosser of the ball and was still
chipping in with goals too. Both were fantasic
players but for me, Ole is number one.

i would have to say sheringham when you consider their whole carear.teddy performed at every level and is the most accomplished english striker from the last 20 years , he never had much speed but saw things happening before all others and scored a good percentage as well.he was way past his best when he came to utd and still managed to make his mark ,thats top quality by my reckoning.

For us OGS was much better than Teddy, but I think if you look at both players entire career then I think Teddy edges it.

i agree with you
teddy at his prime was one of the best strikers in the world
teddy is more complete footballer than ole
but solskjaer is better finisher and more lethal
both are super great legends

Interesting it's about 50/50. It is a pity that Solskjaer was injured for so long and it was also a pity for him that the Cole/Yorke partnership was so immense.

I'd be curious to see a poll set up with OGS, Teddy, and split decision and see how it turns out

Ole for the simple fact he turned Spurs down when United had accepted an offer from them cos he wanted to stay at United.

The guy is a true OLEgend

they're both very important for us and clearly they're the ones who helped United make history....especially in the final in 99...but clearly Ole was a far better player that Teddy...having proof the nr of matches he played for United that our Old Teddy...who had a disadvantage in the favour of our norwegian wiz..the age...but that didn't stop him becoming the an important part our unforgettable history:)
