Benfica duo Armando Petit and Manuel Fernandes have both admitted they are aware of interest in them from English giants Manchester United.
United’s Portuguese assistant manager Carlos Queiroz, who was last week linked to the manager’s position at Benfica, played down reports that United were preparing a move for 29-year-old Petit.
But the former Boavista man, currently preparing for the World Cup with the Portugal squad, has revealed that he is aware of interest from United: “I am happy at Benfica but I know of the interest from Manchester United and other teams,” he told reporters.
“Anyone would like to play for Manchester United.”
“If a proposal appears that is good for me and Benfica, I have the possibility to leave. My future will be resolved in the next two or three weeks.”
The ‘Red Devils’ are known to be searching the globe for midfielders, and Petit’s fellow Benfica midfielder Manuel Fernandes is another reported candidate to move to Old Trafford, where he would join compatriot Cristiano Ronaldo.
20-year-old Fernandes said: “I am happy with the news because United is a super club, but officially I have not received any offer.”
