Manchester United defender Jonathan Spector has completed a £500,000 transfer to West Ham. The 20-year-old has become Alan Pardew's second signing of the summer window and follows hot on the heels of the capture of Lee Bowyer from Newcastle. Big things were expected of Spector when he first burst onto the scene at Old Trafford but, after being loaned out to Charlton last season, Sir Alex Ferguson has decided to move on the versatile USA international. Spector made just two Premiership starts for United and West Ham manager Alan Pardew was only too happy to offer Spector an escape route from Old Trafford. Sky Sports News

West Ham have completed the signing of Jonathan Spector from Manchester United for an initial fee of ?500,000.

The 20 year old spent the entirety of last season out on loan with Charlton, and only missed out on a place in the USA's World Cup squad after dislocating his shoulder.

West Ham commercial director Scott Duxbury told the club website: "We have worked very hard to secure this transfer as we believe Jonathan is going to be a big asset to West Ham United.

"We would like to welcome Jonathan to Upton Park and wish him all the very best for his future career here."

Yeah, he did seem to look a nice prospect for the future...We still have Pique though. Look forward to seeing a lot more of him this coming season.

yeah, for sure... I just hope the youngsters get their chances... that seems more and more likely at the moment with various transfer targets either being priced out of the game or snubbing Utd! David Jones, Rossi, Pique, Bardsley and maybe even Ben Foster I'd like to see a few times this season in games that mean more than just 3rd round of the Carling Cup.

His a top youngster, a tad disappointing that he left, mind you we got Pique as a promising defender.
