Ok, anybody interested in the British Open golf?...and if so, who do you think will win it this year?....Tiger Woods again?
Anybody interested in golf generally or is it not your cup of tea?;)

Paul McGinley is doing very nicely. If he keeps this up he could win the thing.

The report on the news tonight floored me.....
He said Daly had played magnificently and played superbly for his eagle to go into the lead - then he seemed to blow a gasket and went into reverse.
Shame cos Big John is a character.......and he cant half whack a drive with the 'killer whale'.....thats the name of his driver in case anyone wonders :p

Actually, it's well known that John Daly has had his problems with drink and he seemed to go on a downward spiral after he won the Open a few years ago...i think his marriage broke up, etc...all the usual nightmarish stuff that happens when drink gets a hold of you...
I read an article about Daly some time ago and he did turn into a roaring alcoholic....i believe his mates were worried about him bigtime because the majority of the time they met up with Daly, he was ****ed out of his head.
Daly went to AA Meetings some time ago and he's managed to get his life back together...all credit to him, he's been sober for a good while now. It would be great to see somebody like him win it...as he most definitely has had his fair share of problems.

I agree - he is a bit wreckless (or he was)....but he put the effort in and it would be nice to see him win.....but with Mr T Woods lurking in the background - it's gonna be tough for anyone to whoop his ass innit ?

I think Woods is still some way behind Nicklaus when it comes to Major wins...but it would be nice to see him win...
I think that Woods sometimes gets unfair criticism, which i really don't understand because he's a winner and a genuine bloke, he always signs autographs and he never says no to TV interviews....i read an article somewhere about Woods saying that people should admire the guy for the talent that he has...that's very true.

Anyone see the 18 year old Amateur from Ireland (i think), posted a round of 68 (-3)? Not bad for an amateur in his first Major at a course like Carnoustie.

Monty and Mickleson miss the cut
Busby Boy
20-07-2007, 11:35 PM
I'm surprised that Mickleson has missed the cut, he's done well enough in majors over the last few years (winning the US Masters a couple of times)...i did think that he had enough to at least be in contention for the last two days...
With Monty, it's not really surprising...he's never really done it in majors so far, and it's disappointing because the does have the ability to win a major, he tends to drift out of the running.

Tiger Woods hooked one of his tee shots earlier in the day way left...and he ended up hitting some poor woman on the head!...i saw the shot earlier in the day, Tiger was shouting 'Fore!' and unfortunately she was struck...some marshalls were giving her medical attention...but thankfully she's ok.
They've just said on the BBC that she was a lady from Northern Ireland, good to see that the poor woman is ok!

Yaay! Chin up Garcia (bottled it...again)
Well, as i'm Irish...you can guess that i'm delighted that Padraig has won it!...absolutely brilliant!...he's the first Irish winner since Fred Daly in 1947.
As you can imagine, it's party time over here....:D
The majority of people over here knew that Harrington had the talent to win a Major because of his consistently good performances in the Ryder Cup for Europe..but now that he's actually won the Open, it's like unbelieveable.
Padraig is a really great bloke, always plays with a smile on his face and he deserved it today, i really admired the way he kept his composure.:)

i so though Harrington had wrecked his chance when he hit 2 shots into the water on his last hole.....he was lucky Garcia missed that last putt. But Harrington fully deserved the win with his play-off performance!

I've just got back from a golfing holiday in Wales with my 2 brothers. I played on Rhyl golf course which has one of its holes located next to a main road lined with houses but I managed to keep my tee shot on the course thank goodness!
The Open is a great event that I have attended twice - at Lytham and Hoylake. It was great to see a European golfer win the Open and I'll be sure to cheer on all the Brits and Europeans in person when it's at Royal Birkdale next year.

It's on the outskirts of Liverpool <shudder> - as is Hoylake. Lytham is near Blackpool.
These 3 courses are the only golf courses in the North West of England that can hold the Open. Once I've visited Royal Birkdale then I've been to all of them.
This year it cost £50 for a ticket at Carnoustie and last year (at Hoylake) it was £45 so I'm hoping it won't go up too much next year!

I wanted Sergio to win after the 3rd day but when Harrington started to make his way to the top of the leaderboard I switched allegiance to him.
I felt so sorry for Garcia but he only had himself to blame. He held a 4 shot lead at one point on the final day, had a putt to win on the 18th and had a putt to take the playoff onto the next hole on the 18th.
His time will come - he's too good and young to never win a major.

It must have been disappointing for him to card a 73 in his final round after such a brilliant first 54 holes. I honestly thought he'd finish with a 69 or 70 and win it comfortably - I'm glad I didn't put a bet on!

A few years ago I quit golf for a year - it took me that long to recover from the round I had!
It was an absolute nightmare. I was playing with my younger brother who threw his club in anger after hitting a poor tee shot and it hit my knee, which was pretty painful. I managed to lose all the balls I had (10) with 2 holes left to play and just as I rammed my club into my bag in frustration a bird flying overhead decided that was the perfect time to take a dump on me!
Aaaaaaaaaaaargh!
I'm over it now though :D
