Now that Ryan Giggs is only 43 games away from breaking the all-time appearance record for Manchester United, but will he make it?
With our new signings Nani and Anderson in and maybe Carlos Tevez it is clear that we are planning for the next generation.
Will we see Wayne Rooney as a lone striker with Tevez and Cristiano Ronaldo offering support from either side leaving Giggs, Nani and Anderson fighting for a place?
What do you think? Will Giggs beat Charlton's record?

Good question Mr Redmaster !!!
For the Premier League I see United using a 4-4-2 with Rooney and Tevez up front. With our strength in depth our midfield is awesome - there's no question about that - so any defence facing our midfield and then having Rooney and Tevez to deal with is in big trouble. But a 4-4-2 means less room for midfielders and will make it harder for Giggs to get a place.
However..........
In Europe I personally think 4-5-1 is much better........Tevez up front, Rooney up front or any combination you choose - but I would use Giggs in Europe definitely - he has a wealth of experience and thats what we need - calm heads and discipline.
I'd be inclined to use him for the Carling Cup - and use this as a chance for Giggs to play alongside the youngsters - what a marvellous example to them all he must be. They will benefit from playing with one of the all time greats.
I think he WILL break the record - I cant see him doing it this year - but next year he will do it - in his final year at Old Trafford I feel :( :(

I am a true 'unbiased' red, whom unlike a lot of people on this site actually go and watch the boys 'week in, week out'. I dont claim to know anymore than any other member on the site, but in 'my opinion' Giggs should slowly be adapted to becoming a squad player, especially with the new signings and i dont think that Fergie owes it to any player to achieve records.

I think David made his comment in a metaphorical way you know. We have to face it Giggsy is reaching the end of the line and his career is going to have to wind down eventually......much as it upsets me to say this........so we dont need to be nasty to him really - he meant no harm by the comment .....x
As for Fergie making sure he gets the record........
Never in a month of Sundays would he ever do that unless it was earned by Mr Giggs.
This is why Fergie is the best of the best - if Giggsy was one game short of the record and was 'off form' Fergie would drop him - quite rightly so - there is no place for sentimental complacency in this game - and this is why Fergie will go down as being the best there ever was.....!!!!!!
He does what is right for the fans, the club and for the team.......never for individuals and records .

I think if Giggs is on the bench and weve got a healthy lead and are comfortable coming into the later stages of the 2nd half, unless theres an injury etc Giggs will be the 1st person SAF will think to bring on. Imo SAF will want Giggs to get this record more than anyone - since its him thats brought Giggs through the ranks - and you could say he was the 1 that made Giggs

If not this season then Giggsy will beat it nest season. I think him and Scholesy have another 2-3 years in them yet.

I don't see him breaking it. He's still fit enough but i just think injuries will play a part. Plus Giggs has only played 30 games in the premiership once or something like that. He'll play enough in the champions league but i think unless we absolutely need him he won't play a constant role in the league.

The only thing i can think of adding to this thread was questioning who actually voted he wouldn't get it?
