Manchester United striker Giuseppe Rossi has signed a new contract with the Old Trafford club. The promising former Parma starlet is expected to make an impact in the first team next term after two outstanding seasons in the reserves.
Although a number of clubs want to sign Rossi on a long-term loan, the 19-year-old is keen to push for a place in Sir Alex Ferguson's attack - despite the wealth of talent at the manager's disposal.
"It is great to have extended my contract with the best team in the world," enthused Rossi to United's official website. "I just hope to keep progressing and developing my career." Rossi was the club's Reserve Team Player of the Year last season and showed glimpses of his potential when used in the first team, including playing a starring role in the demolition of non-league outfit Burton Albion in the FA Cup.
The New Jersey-born Italian was selected ahead of Ruud van Nistelrooy for the final day win over Charlton Athletic and, with doubts remaining over the Dutch striker's future, he will hope to make an impact during the pre-season tour of South Africa.
