LONDON, July 31 (Reuters) - Soccer news in brief from around the world:

Manchester United captain Gary Neville and strikers Louis Saha and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer are battling to be fit for the start of next season.

Manager Alex Ferguson, whose champions open at home to Reading on Aug. 12, told www.manutd.com the trio would not be ready for "roughly a couple of weeks." Paul Scholes has already been ruled out for the season start by knee surgery.

Portuguese winger Nani is a doubt for Wednesday's friendly against Inter Milan with an ankle injury. England midfielder Owen Hargreaves is back in full training after tendinitis and could feature for the first time in Saturday's pre-season game against Peterborough. Brazilian Anderson could play in Friday's friendly against Doncaster Rovers.

Hardly news Carly. We've known about Saha, Gary and Ole since the start of preseason. Losing Scholes was a big disappointment but hopefully he'll be back soon and we'll manage till he does.
