Sir Alex Ferguson feels 10 points will be enough to see United safely through a tricky Champions League qualifying group.

The Reds are joined in Group F by Roma, Sporting Lisbon and Dynamo Kiev, and the Boss is certain that little will separate the four teams as they vie for qualification.
“It’s going to be a very tight group.I hope we can get 10 points. It’s going to be difficult, but if we get 10 points, I think we’ll qualify.”

United have been drawn against Roma just five months after crushing the Italians 8-3 on aggregate in last season’s quarter-final, which was marred by off-pitch violence before or during both games.

And with Nani and Cristiano Ronaldo - two former Sporting players – in the United ranks, together with a good knowledge of Kiev’s virtues, Sir Alex knows that his side face a tough task to emerge from the group.

“Obviously Roma will be the talking point after last season,” he said. “Dynamo Kiev are a good side and we know quite a lot about Sporting Lisbon because we have two of their former players here. The whole group poses interesting aspects.”

we sould beat roma at home,do the double over lisbon and least get a point out of dynamo which probaly be our hardest fixture,if this goes well we can then rest players for the f.a.cup league and league cup. and put ourselves in a strong position

10 points out of a possible 18 ? I take it by that comment we'll be playing the usual away tactics that nobody understands.

Fergie always says 10 points will get us through......i hope we get more than that to be certain though.

Fergie always says 10 points will get us through......i hope we get more than that to be certain though.I always say "Win at home - draw away - and everything will turn out OK"

It rhymes too :)

This gives you 12 points - any extra win is OK too.....nice bonus !!

10 points is nice, can't see us getting anything better than a draw away, and a loss to Roma.

setting the target points before the games start is a recipe for disaster!!
its totally wrong to say oh well 10 points are enough and we dont need more.. they should come to every single game expecting a win and the target points at the end should be 18 and nothing less..
say united lost their first game (hope not) the players are gonna say oh its ok we have more games to reach 10 points.. totally wrong attitude.. Im really surprised with SAF..

I know thats what he meant Carly :D .. Im saying that players may aim at the minimum now because of what he said.. a team that really wants to win the champions should aim at perfect score.. nothing less :)

as usuall Liverpool and Arsenal get the good draw and us and chelsea get a hard one... Liverpool and Arsenal qualified so it should be the other way around... Kiev all away games for us will be very very hard

anything less than 3 wins will see us out.. like i said before kiev is not a easy ground... lisboa should be ok.. we know they style.. n we have their ex players.. hahah.. roma.. wont be walk thru.. they'll be out for revenge..
i agree with carly that SAF sets the minimum points.. but hell yea.. players will be laid back once they know the target..

I said at the start that we will get 13 points, I think that we will win r two remaining home games and get a draw in Ukraine and will lose in Italy, I think that we will lose in Italy because will be qualitied as group leaders by the time we play Roma!

Well that my option!

Well hopefully on the away leg to Roma, we would have already qualified. I think we can get atleast 4 point from Dynamo Kyiv. Which should give us the 10 points SAF wants.

fcuking idiot, where have you been for last 10 years, 10 points has been our target every year fergie has made the same comment every year. this is not a stupid comment he's being reallistic, fool.

the same goes for teams who are going to be battling a relegation season in the prem the total is 40 points, not just coz it's a random number, coz it's always right
