I pray Steaua Bucuresti get same group as United or Liverpool....

This will be so good for Steaua.....big, big name come to our country
and we make plenty money from this - then maybe get better player and who
knows.........maybe win the Champs League AGAIN one day.

Steaua beat Barcelona in final before you know !!!

This year I like to see United make big effort even against small teams.

No more losing to team like FC Copenhagen !!!!

This is no good for pride or morale.....win every game like you NEED the
points.......a winning run makes thing seem much easier I think.

I think Real Madrid was in group with Steaua several years ago

Tonight Sparta is going to steam-rolled Arsenal and then I wish they will be drawn to the group with MUFC.

as long as we stay away from the russian teams and don't have to travel to far i don't care who we get, we are seeded so we will miss all the big teams, we will qualify no matter who we get

This attitude will get United beaten !!!

Copenhagen, Celtic make life difficult last year when this should have been easy days.

I say United will qualify if they play very well and CONCENTRATE on every game !!!

Teams like Steaua and other smnaller club can give you a headache if you think they just give up and let you win - they will never do this - they try their very best to get a big, big win you know !!!

If we don't reach at least the quarter final this time around we aren't going to be top seeded anymore and that is not good, definitely not the end of the world but its better to be top seeded.

Playing the way we are, the patient possession play, I think we can go far as this style seems to be better suited to the Champions League

lol ok

yeh we should concentrate on the league especially with the "rocky" start we've had lol we need to get a good run under our belt 1st:)

i dont look at the table until at least 10 games in thatswhen it will work out and i can assure you that city will be no where near the top lmao

We wont end up like Liverpool lol. I think the biggest challenge is mixing Manchester United style, with continental European style. Its still a mystery how we can work it out, but with our bigger squad, a defensive midfielder (finally) and a lot of experienced heads in Europe we can go all the way. The key is to raise our game when it comes to the knock-out stages.

we can go all the way. The key is to raise our game when it comes to the knock-out stages.

Last season this was almost perfect - right until the home game with Milan at 3-2 it was still OK - 2 away goal yes but 1 goal lead......just a draw - a little draw...........

But when chips were down - United fell short.....they fall very, very short in this game and even now I cannot work out what go wrong that night ....

I like to say Milan play the best they have for 5 or 6 years on that night - but this is maybe not true !!!

Something is missing when it comes to the BIGGEST games - and I dont see anything to make me believe things are any different now !!!

I do. Owen Hargreaves is and hopefully will be the difference. He has plenty of experience in Europe and will give the defence the vital protection. I believe that we could have beaten Milan if he was there. Kaka ran riot against us. He wouldnt have been as effective if OH had been there. We can now play 4-4-2 in Europe instead of messing about with 4-5-1 and Rooney on the wing.

I don't want to meet Roma, they will have a point to prove and I'd like to avoid them.

All the teams in the 2nd pot are very difficult, the easiest teams are PSV and Athens (if they make it through.)

I'd like to meet Werder Bremen as we have never met them before.

Behold! Slavia overrided Ajax. The golman Vaniak is truly pure class, so beware of Slavia. (But for me it would be the only chance how to see United in action)

But when United played with Sparta (in Prague), the tickets were almost unavailable.

English clubs in top seeds

English clubs Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United are all among the eight top seeds for Thursday's UEFA Champions League draw for the group stage.

The English giants are joined by two from Spain - Barcelona and Real Madrid - plus title holders AC Milan and their city rivals Inter.

FOLLOW THE UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE DRAW LIVE ON SKY SPORTS.COM FROM 4.30 PM

Celtic are among the third seeds in the draw with Rangers among the fourth seeds.

Before the names are drawn out of the hat UEFA are due to announce sweeping changes to the format of the competition.

UEFA president Michel Platini is expected to confirm the details of his plans to open up the Champions League to wider competition, specifically by giving domestic cup winners an opportunity to make it into the 32-team group phase.

It is understood that his plans would have 16 cup winners from Europe's leading countries in a qualifying competition for four places in the group stage of the Champions League. This qualifying event would be run in parallel to a qualifying competition based on domestic league positions for 12 other places, to join the 16 teams who qualify automatically.

we have got a tough group this year but maybe that will do us good, no more resting on our laurels like we did last year against the likes of fc copenhagen and celtic, we will need to be ready right from the off this year. so hold on guy's this could be a bumpy ride. but saying that i think qualify top of the group

1luv1utd
30-08-2007, 06:36 PM
Wow!!! a very nail-biting group, I'm tingling, with fear and excitement.

Roma are going to want their revenge, forget about the 7-1 last year. I said earlier in the thread that they are in the one team I would've like to avoid but well they are with us and they have improved just like us. Dont get too downhearted though, the truth is they probably fear us a lot more than we fear them, because quite honestly we are the better team.

Sporting Lisbon are another exciting team and I can't wait to see them in action. We haven't played them for so long in Europe. I can see us getting all 3 points at Old Trafford and we will probably get a draw at the very least away against them. I honestly can't see them beating us if we play to our potential.

Last time we met Dynamo Kiev was in the 2001 Champions League when Sheringham scored the only goal of the game to put United through to the 2nd group stage. Watching their games in the Champions League they are no pushovers and we shouldn't take them lightly.

We are the favorites however and if we play at our best no one can match us!

30-08-2007, 10:20 PM
one heeeelllll o a ****y group were in, hard as nails, but squad depth and the different styles of players we have, particularly attackin midfield, could be what sees us make it look easier than it should be, given that hopefully old trafford becomes the terror machine it should be and fergie-queiroz get the squad rotation spot on, we'll be ok

I'm delighted with the group. As long as Fergie ditches this cautious european approach, we'll sail through. I'm not underestimating our opponents at all, but they're all attacking teams which suits us best. Recent years we've had to deal with Celtic, Copenhagen and Lille Hoping for draws each time. It's annoying as hell!

Sir Alex Ferguson admitted Manchester United's rematch with Roma will provide the talking point of their Champions League campaign.

Last season's quarter-final tussle between the pair was scarred by violence, with fighting marring both legs.

The trouble overshadowed one of the finest European performances of all-time by Sir Alex Ferguson's men, who thrashed the Serie A outfit 7-1 at Old Trafford after losing the first leg 2-1.

"That will be the talking point after last season," said Ferguson.

However, the United boss also has other major challenges to ponder, not least a testing trip to Dynamo Kiev and two encounters with Sporting Lisbon, the club which provided the Red Devils with both Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani.

"It is a very tight group," he added. "Dynamo Kiev are a good side.

"We also have two of Sporting Lisbon's former players, so we know a bit about them."

Ferguson will hope to avoid a repeat and has already set his side the task of gaining 10 points to get them on the road to bettering last season's semi-final berth.

"The whole group possesses some very interesting aspects," he said. "We hope we can get 10 points. It will be difficult but if we can get that I think we will qualify."

Uefa Chiefs were on red alert last night after Manchester United were handed a Champions League return trip to Roma - just months after the violence that scarred last season's quarter-final clash.

Baton-wielding riot police steamed in to United fans after the unprotected supporters were pelted with missiles in March, leaving 11 Old Trafford supporters needing hospital treatment.

And as United chief executive David Gill demanded no repeat when the final Group F tie is played on December 12, UEFA pledged to ensure the 3,600 travelling English fans will be protected.

William Gaillard, special advisor to UEFA President Michel Platini, said: "We will take special care of Manchester United fans because we know they had trouble last time and will tighten up security to make sure they don't get a repeat of the incident.

"We will be liaising with the clubs and the local authorities. The Italian FA have a new training programme for stewards. It means we will have well trained stewards instead of riot police."

Gill said: "Our fans were blameless and what happened was unacceptable. There was a comprehensive report on the events last time and we will look at that again with UEFA."

But senior Roma official Antonio Tempestilli said: "We do not believe the issue of the fans and the security in the stadium is our problem. It is a problem for the police and the justice department.

"What happened was a shame for football. That violence is something we do not want to see again. After the bad experiences we have to act very strongly to avoid a repeat.

"But I hope the same sort of measures will be used in Manchester too. We must not forget that Roma fans were attacked out there."

Roma coach Luciano Spalletti insists last season's drubbing at the hands of United will have no bearing on the new Champions League campaign.

The Reds hammered the Italians 7-1 at Old Trafford in April's quarter-final, second leg, sealing an 8-3 aggregate passage into the last four. But, having been drawn in Group F alongside United, Sporting Lisbon and Dynamo Kiev, Spalletti is confident of progress.

"Last season's 7-1 defeat in Manchester is the past, this is a new tournament," he said. "We will do our best knowing that we have everything that is needed to go through.

"It's a tough group but in this kind of competition you need to have great qualities whoever the opponents are and Roma have great qualities, considering what we have done so far."

United and Roma are favourites to qualify, according to Sporting coach Paulo Bento, who will renew acquaintances with former players Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani
