The Reds will have Wayne Rooney and Owen Hargreaves back in action for the trip to Lisbon this week.
United have been without Rooney since the opening day of the season when he suffered a metatarsal fracture in his left foot, while Hargreaves has been troubled by a knee injury.
Rooney had been expected to play a part in Saturday's 1-0 win over his former club Everton, but Reds boss Sir Alex opted to rest the 21-year-old striker, who instead trained over the weekend in preparation for Wednesday's visit to Portugal.
"They'll both be ok for Wednesday," Sir Alex told MUTV after the victory at Goodison Park.
"We took medical advice on Wayne and as he had only started training on Monday, we felt that five days' training was maybe a bit short.
"But he trained on Saturday morning, Sunday and he'll train right through until Wednesday. By that point he will definitely be available for the match against Sporting Lisbon."

England internationals Wayne Rooney and Owen Hargreaves are both fit for Manchester United's Champions League trip to Sporting Lisbon.
The pair both missed England's Euro 2008 qualifiers, but are now fit enough for the start of the Red Devils' European campaign.
Hargreaves has been absent with a knee injury while Rooney has not featured since fracturing a metatarsal against Reading on the opening weekend.
However, the pair are back in training and now Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed they will both be in his squad that travels to Portugal.
"They'll both be okay for Wednesday," Ferguson told MUTV.
"We took medical advice on Wayne and as he had only started training on (last) Monday, we felt that five days' training was maybe a bit short.
"But he trained on Saturday morning, Sunday and he'll train right through until Wednesday. By that point he will definitely be available for the match against Sporting."

That's good timing. We need both of those players for the game against Chelsea at the weekend.

Owen Hargreaves has rated himself doubtful for the game on Wednesday after missing training today...
"I thought I would be fit for the Israel game, then the Russia game and then Everton, but I've still not done it. I have to take it day by day so hopefully I will be fit for the weekend.
"I can't say for certain but it looks as though I won't be ready for Wednesday because I have not trained."
"It is frustrating," he said.
"I missed pre-season then I had a run of games and I was really enjoying it.
"It is just disappointing to suffer something so niggly. But I think these injuries come from last season when I broke my leg."

i'd rather they played a cameo role in this game, rooney coming on as 2nd half sub and hargo playing the 1st hour (if fit) the game on sunday against chelsea is far more inportant than this game, we'll have plenty of chances to qualify from this group. but we only get 2 shots at chelsea all season to take points of them. and need them for this match

Manchester United's Owen Hargreaves has admitted that it is unlikely that he feature in Wednesday's UEFA Champions League game with Sporting Lisbon.
Earlier in the day Sir Alex Ferguson spoke of his optimism that Hargreaves might be available for the clash.
But the England international, who has been struggling with a thigh strain, is less confident of his chances.
"I have never really had this injury before so this is new territory," Hargreaves told the Manchester Evening News.
"I can't say for certain but it looks as though I won't be ready for Wednesday because I have not trained (on Monday)."
Frustration
Hargreaves voiced his frustration at his spell on the sidelines, and believes his current injury problems are linked to the leg break which he suffered last season.
"It is frustrating. I missed pre-season then I had a run of games and I was really enjoying it," he added.
"I thought I would be fit for the Israel game, then the Russia game and then Everton, but I've still not done it. I have to take it day by day so hopefully I will be fit for the weekend.
"It is just disappointing to suffer something so niggly. But I think these injuries come from last season when I broke my leg."
So i doubt he will play then?
