Manchester United are rolling out the welcome mat for Argentine legend Diego Maradona.

The Mirror says Maradona will be Manchester United's guest of honour for their Premier League showdown with Wigan next month - after making a special request to see Carlos Tevez.

World Cup legend Maradona is close friends with Tevez and will fly over to take his seat in the directors' box to see his fellow Argentine play at Old Trafford on October 6.

Maradona, 47, is taking part in the charity rematch of the 1986 World Cup "Hand of God" clash between England and Argentina at Villa Park on October 14.

I hope the stands is giving a living legend a standing ovation. What the 21st century footballers dream of doing at the pitch Diego did it in the 80's.

Diego who? :p

On the pitch he was a legend thats fort sure, just a shame that his shadow is somewhat overhauled by the life he let outside football.

I have to agree. He did some dodgy things but overall probably the greatest footballer of all time.

He does not even come close to Pele or Best.

I would have him up with those two for sure. He may have been a cheat at times but he had undoubted class. You may still be hating him from '86?

no - for what he is and was, how anyone can look up to a junkie is beyond belief.

I look up to him for what he did on the football field.
His drug addiction is an illness like alcoholism. I feel sorry for him for how he has turned out but these things happen to people who cant deal with success (Gazza, Best, Adams, Merson etc. etc)

A legend in his own right........ wish he had playeddd more.
its sad his image has been tarnished bt yet he is a role model for youngsters.

I don't remember him for his bad but rather for his good.

So RD if you don't like Maradona for being a cheat, Junkie ect I take it your not so keen on G.Best then - Gambling, sex, alcoholic. Like you say "how anyone can look up to a junkie is beyond belief" - The same applies to George then "how can anyone look up to an alcoholic is beyond belief".

i didn't know adrian mutu was coming :p LMAO

maradona was the best footballer i've ever seen he won the 86 world cup almost on his own, a truly great player. yes he had problems off the pitch but no footballer should be judged what happens off the pitch, just on it IMO

mate G.Best had the image of a rockstar with all his persona, flair and skills
whereas maradona was mainly known for his skills bt didnt really have the other
attributes Best had...
