In my personal opinion it has to be a throw up between Bosnich And Van der Sar

VdS for me.
Though for comedy value we always have good ol' Fabien Barthez.

It's Van Der Sar for me, great goalkeeper who doesn't make stupid mistakes.
VDS has to be the most 'consistent' keeper we've had since Schmeichel's departure however the eccentric Barthez was really good when he was not making those stupid mistakes of his.

I would say Edwin van der Sar. He should have been 22.. Superb goalkeeper, just what United needed when they got him..
Van Der Sar hands down. Why did we not get him years ago?

I was a fan of barthezs until he started to make mistakes, twice in a game against deportivo. its got to be vds really, mabey the recent past in tearms of sucess would have been different if we'd have got him much sooner?
Barthez was a great keeper and probably the best until he lost the plot and started flapping like a smackhead without his fix
Van der sar feels the most dependable keeper since schmeichel so i'd rather have him than anyone else ... I can't ever see fergie spending mega bucks for a keeper, so hopefully ben foster recovers well from his injury and lives up the promise of the last two seasons ready to take over from VDS

Easy, Edwin Van Der Sar. We have had good goalkeepers but never of the same calibre as Edwin Van Der Sar, he is a world-class keeper and very solid (apart from the odd mistake) which everyone makes anyway.

I think that if his head had'nt been used as a ball then Gary Walsh could have become a great home grown keeper. Are we all forgetting Taibi as consistancy is paramount with a goalie and thats the one thing he had. No seriously it has to be Van der sar for me and i totally agree with missing out on him earlier.

cant decide about the best but the worst is easily carrol

Now I think there were worse than Carroll, like Taibi, sticks out in my mind so easily and Ricardo. Ok he hasn't played many games but common if you can't get ahead of a team that has Howard and Carroll and a Dodgy Barthez then you must really suck.

Definitely VDS for consistency and confidence, you never worry when you see him between the sticks. Carroll was alright, Howard was quite good and was unlucky to fall foul of SAF, Barthez was as good as he was unpredictable. Bosnich was a fat mess and Van der Gouw was only ever replacement standard.

wow wow wow y on earth would u even put Bosnich up there he was utter *****

I can only agree on that , Bosnich was a ***** fat coke sniffing mess, Barthez was an unpredictable jester and i was never dependant on 'fffffffff****in Howard'. It would be nice by next season to hopefully put Foster up for this.

Best: Fabien Barthez, Tim Howard, Edwin Van der Sar.
Worst: Massimo Taibi, Raimond Van Der Gouw.
Never had a chance to play for United: Ricardo.

My personal list:
1...VDS (I would even dare say that at times he was even better than th great dane)
2...Carrol (Helped in a time of goalkeeping need and only the milan game sticks out as a bad mistake)
3...Bathez (Not as abd as people make hima, he also had a record of only conceading 2 in four matches in 00/01)
4...Howard (Begin good but my heart used to hurt me whenever I used to see him between the sticks)
5...Raimond Van Der Gouw (Best ever second goalie)
6...Bosnich (Not much memory of him, but simply a junkie)
7...Taibi (Had a good game against Liverpool, but things started going laughingly bad from than)
8...Ricardo (Pure s*it if you can't start a game in 3 years of goalkeeping hell)

In my view, there's no doubt that Van Der Sar has been the best goalkeeper that we've had since Schmeichel left...overall, Edwin is a steady goalkeeper and he rarely makes daft mistakes...
You say that Barthez was not as bad as people make out...personally when i think about Barthez's time at Old Trafford, i think about the mistakes that he made!
I remember one particular game at Highbury were Barthez had an absolute nightmare...he managed to kick the ball to Henry TWICE by mistake...resulting in two handy goals for Henry and a 3-1 defeat to Arsenal (i think).

Did you know that on aug 22 1999, Nick Culkin played against Arsenal away for a record 12 seconds before the ref blew for full time and he never played again.

For me it would have to be Ricardo or Taibi, truly inspiring:D
But seriously Van Der Sar.

Was Van der gouw that bad? For a back-up to the great dane i think he did alright. And when he got a run in the side he didn't F-up that much.
Bosnich was okay until he went running to a team that doesn't mind if you're wacked out up to your eyeballs.
Howard was awesome first year, carroll should've never called himself a United player, barthez is dead to me after the Areshole game, and taibi/ricardo will at least have something to tell the grandchildren.

I wish we'd signed Van der Sar a couple of years earlier - he's been great for us. I'm hoping Ben Foster will be our next number 1 but we'll have to see how he comes back from his injury.

Yeah someone said Howard, let me tell you why he's not a good player...
Hes schizophrenic.
Kind of hard to be a keeper when both your personalities are diving both ways...

No, he's not. He has Tourette's syndrome.
Besides, there is a difference between people with schizophrenia and split personality syndrome.
Schizophrenics find it impossible to concentrate because they are ALWAYS thinking about something and tend to think about the same thing over and over again, which also means many of them suffer from insomnia, which in turn can lead to hallucinations, violent mood swings etc

Bosnich, Barthez and Howard all had the talent but lacked the consistency. Van der Sar succeeded in where they've failed. He's been very consistent through out the two seasons he's had here. Did make the odd mistake but he offers calmness at the back and he's got that presence inside the box.

How cool was Ricardo when he first got late and got Blackburn a penalty kick and then saved the penalty kick at the start of 2nd half. WOW!
Best Edwin
And we should never had signed Bosnich a 2nd time.
