Ferdinand Pumped For 'Massive Game'

Rio Ferdinand is determined to send a clear message to the rest of the league by
leading his team to victory over Arsenal at the Emirates on Saturday.

“A win at the Emirates would be a great marker to put down — although I don’t think it will determine where the league is going to go,” said the English international defender.

“There’s only a handful of games gone — but we need to make sure we give a
good account of ourselves.

“We need to make sure we get the points and stay at the top of the league.

“It’s a massive game but no matter who wins it will not be a case of ‘They’re
going to win the league’ or even ‘They’ll be the favourites’.”

Reports in the media earlier in the week suggested that the centre-half was set
to miss the match through injury but Ferdinand insists that such talk is
completely unfounded.

“I don’t know where the reports have come from. I have been training fully this
week so there is no problem,” he insisted.

Finally, Ferdinand commented on the fact that United – led by Carlos Tevez and
Wayne Rooney – are finding the net for fun now after their high profile struggles
in front of goal at the beginning of the campaign.

“We’re scoring goals and it’s a big difference from the start of the season,” he
added. We were creating chances but weren’t converting them.

“Now we seem to be putting them in the back of the net and that bodes well.

“It’s looking good but now it’s got to continue. We have to sustain it over a good
amount of time. This is just the start.”
