Shearer hails Man Utd pair Rooney, Tevez
Newcastle legend Alan Shearer says he always knew the Manchester United
pairing of Wayne Rooney and Carlos Tevez would click.
"I am a huge fan of Wayne Rooney's and everyone knows that. He has great
ability and strength," Shearer told the Manchester Evening News.
"It's a different kind of partnership he has with Tevez to the norm, but it is a
partnership that is undoubtedly working.
"I am not surprised by that at all. I am a big believer in the fact that great players
can play together and they are proving that.
"I did have a lot of partners during my career who complemented my style, but I
also did have Les Ferdinand at Newcastle with me who was a similar player.
"We scored 49 goals together in one season so there was no problem there
despite the fact it may have appeared on the surface not a compatible
partnership.
"It is all right saying a big man and a small man works and anything else is a
struggle. I just think that great players will get it together and play well in any
system.
"If I had had any doubts that I couldn't have played with Les then I wouldn't
have gone to Newcastle. I was just confident it would work and it did work.
"If the players around you are clever enough and the two players up front are
clever enough then it will be a success. Certainly the players at Man United are
clever enough for it to work there is no doubt about that."
