Is It Too Late For Dimitar Berbatov’s United Dream ?

The last days of Martin Jol and the promised Spurs renaissance under Juande
Ramos have as a common theme the constant rumour that Dimitar Berbatov is
United-bound.

The Times splashes with the story today and speculates that the
Bulgarian striker will seek a move to Old Trafford in January, after having a
summer transfer refused by the Spurs hierarchy.

As stated elsewhere in these pages, Berbatov’s presence at Old Trafford would
certainly enhance United as an attacking unit. Sir Alex certainly thought so last
summer and was pursuing the player right up until the transfer window closed.

But has the Berbatov ship now sailed?

Sir Alex has said categorically that there will be no new recruits in January. And
even if the manager was setting up a smoke screen for the press, where and
how would Berbatov fit into the current team ?

United’s game is increasingly about pace and movement.

Does Berbatov have the lightening speed that counter-attacking United require?

Is there a place for him in the line-up with Rooney and Tevez looking like the new
fish and chips of the Premiership ?

Will Ferguson consider seriously breaking up that blossoming partnership to slot in the moody Bulgarian?

From this distance, the answer would appear to be no. But with Tevez only on
loan and the financial interests of his ‘management’ team likely to take
precedence, a deal for the Bulgarian forward might be on the cards next summer.

For now, as the Times advises, Berbatov should prepare himself for an extended
run in the expected Ramos revolution.

We need another winger IMO. Giggs is becoming more central with his loss of pace, leaving only Ronaldo and Nani and Rooney who can sometimes play on the left, but since were not exactly rolling in strikers, thats not often at all...

the legend that is Park Ji-Sung will be back by the transfer window hopefully - he can play on either wing. ;)
