Man Utd are ready to make Wayne Rooney their highest paid player to keep him at Old Trafford for the rest of his career.
Alex Ferguson revealed United are keen to trash out a new deal that will see Rooney's wages double to £100,000 a week. Rooney, who still has four years left on the deal that he signed with United in August 2004, has already said that he wants to end his career at Old Trafford.
United chief executive, David Gill is expected to begin negotiations with the 20 year old and his advisers in the coming weeks.
'That is something David and i have been discussing' said Fergie 'We want Wayne to stay here for a lifetime. He is a fantastic footballer with his energy, talent and enthusiasm'
'He is going to be a top player for years to come' said Ferguson.
