I take a gamble here......

I predict this team has the most strength in all postions......

Also......

They have more talent as a whole.......

I also think they could go on to win more than one Champs League too....

At the moment it is 98/99 team for what they have achieved!

I think the current team will win everything in the next few seasons but until they do its the 98/99 team at the moment.

That's a tough one to call.

If you're talking about best starting XI rather than best squad then it's a different answer in my opinion.

The 98/99 team won the treble because of the squad we had (Sheringham coming off the bench in the FA Cup Final, Keane and Scholes suspended for the Champions League Final and Sheringham and Solskjaer coming off the bench to win it). Although the midfield of Beckham, Keane, Scholes and Giggs was one of the best this club has ever had.

However, the 93/94 double winning side was a fantastic starting XI. It had Cantona! And the Bruce/Pallister pairing, which was fantastic. Hughes is still one of my favourite United players, the battling midfield pairing of Keane and Ince (even if he did turn out to be a traitorous dog by joining Liverpool), the pace and skill of Kanchelskis and Giggs on the wings. What a team!

The current squad still need to prove themselves by winning back to back Prem titles, a double, treble or, dare I say it, quadruple.

It's simple: Goalkeeper and defence from 1993/94, Midfield from 1998/99 and Attack from 1993/94. I voted for 1993/94.

Its very hard to compare. Different eras require different elements in a side. We only used 18 or so player back in the early 90s. So am gonna base this on teams rather than squads.

'94 was a team of men. It was a team of fighters who can also play football. Roy Keane once mentioned something about that era. something along the lines "we used to get out on the pitch. Win the battle first then let our football do that talking". The team was full of characters. And quality. The perfect midfield four. Keane and Ince/Robson and Giggs and Kanchelskis/Sharpe on the wings. with argueby the best Goal keeper in the history of our club. A great defence led by Brucey and my favourite striker partnership of all team. Back to back league titles and an FA cup confirm their status as a great side.

By the time the '99 team was formed, clubs were using a big squad rather than a small pool of players. and our squad was full of quality and options. Big Pete was still there, but the defence lost a bit of its power. Beckahm and Scholes/Butt were/are great great footballers. And the four strikers we've had complimented each other and offered goals. Lots of them. A treble and a couple other league titles confirm that sides greatness.

Now to the current side. BIG squad. A great one. Options all over the place and great football to watch. But until this side wins trophies regulary it cannot be compared to the other two. We can compare them in a few years time maybe, but not now.

My choice would be the '94 team. The played football the way I believe it should be played. A mans game. Grit, hard working, determined AND quality. The combined their fighting spirit with their amazing ability it was just sheer joy to watch.

Yes great post to a great thread. Such a tough call this..... Cantona & Hughes up front were the best. Midfield of 98/99 was easily the best midfield and that team got the treble so they WERE great. Though this seasons squad is the strongest squad ever Im not so sure about first 11 compared to the other great teams. They have to win trophys to be considered great. Ive a feeling they will and in turn will be Uniteds greatest ever team but for now its the treble winners.

This is so hard, for me it's between 93/94 and 98/99, both teams oozing with such class. Hughes, Cantona,Bruce,Pallister,Ince etc and then that awesome midfield and Cole/Yorke.

But I've settled with 98/99. Their achievements just edge it.

I think you'll find that the seven who voted 07/08 are the younger age group, late teens/early 20s, not many were even old enough to support a team in 98/99 and even less going back to 93/94.

11 clean sheets from 19 games - brilliant defence.

Midfield is awesome......Nani, Anderson and Carrick sit on the bench from time to
time !!!

These guys make it into any team in the Prem easy - but not United !!

And for strikers........well we scoew goals for fun right now and will do all
year.....more than any other United team have managed !!

.........and VDS in goal too......

not - who can stop us ?

The Premier League will be won too - all the Africans going to the ANC is going to

98/99 team for me, This is because they wonn the treble and this seasons team have yet to do it ( i think we will) but untill they do they arn't the best... just yet as a squad i think nothing will beat the 98/99 squad but as a starting eleven this seasons team is better (with a few exceptions)

Nobody is saying they are crap.....but they can't be considered great.....until they win some trophies....
If they don't win any trophies no matter how many finals they reach or how many times they beat Chelsea or the Scum they will not be mentioned in the same breadth as the 94 or 99 teams......and rightly so....the same goes for Wenger's young guns...
And it is Fergie who has said this time and time again...you are nothing as a team without trophies and football history will forget you.....

It doesn't matter if our present team would beat the 99 team 10-0...ten times in a row, which they wouldn't anyway, the 99 team will always be greater if our present team fail to win any trophies....

These line-ups are too hard to compare, 'cause times have changed and so has football. Fergie has been able to change Uniteds way of playing through time, which is incredible :eek:
I loved the 1998-99 team, but I don't remember that much of that season(because I didn't have satellite/cable and I was too young to go to a pub to see the matches), I only saw the unforgettable UCL-final. But I would have to vote for this seasons team, it's always a joy to watch Uniteds matches, their way of play is so beautiful most of the time! :)

The team this year is flashy, full of talent, and are already convincing people (even though the season is so young) that they are and will win it all.

The bottom line is - no one knows. Until the season is over, no one knows what will happen. We might have the best form and skill, but if we choke then that's it.

I think this would've been better to release after the seaon, or at the start of next season, so we would have a more equal compare and contrast.

That being said... I voted the 98/99. "Can Manchester United score... they always score"

In my view(as I've stated) the 98/99 team was the best, then the 93/94...this team we have now has not proved a whole lot...they should be able to become a great team and win a few trophies, but it's way too early to even compare them to the other two. On paper, its great...
