~~~ TREBLE-WINNING hero Henning Berg has told Sir Alex Ferguson’s kids ~~~
~~~ it’s time to party like it’s 1999 – and beyond ~~~

Ferguson claimed at the weekend that his Manchester United squad is the
strongest he has ever had.

And Berg insists there is no reason why Fergie’s current crop can’t repeat the
memorable Treble-winning triumph of eight years ago.

Berg, who was part of the 99 squad, said: “The teams from the early-90s and the
late-90s were fantastic.

“And this year’s team have the quality and potential to match the success of
those teams.

“Potential is not always enough when you are aiming to win everything like we
did in 1999 when we had an incredible momentum from January. You would need
a crystal ball to see how they can do in years to come.

“But there is no doubt this team can be as good, if not better, than anything
that’s gone before.”

The Norwegian insists United’s return to the top in the last two seasons is proof
of Ferguson’s remarkable ability to produce the right team for the right era.

And Berg – who also starred in Blackburn’s 1995 title triumph – believes the
emergence of Cristiano Ronaldo marks the defining moment of United’s return to
the top.

The former defender, now manager of Lyn Oslo, added: “Ferguson’s strength has
been to recognise and understand what is required to win games in different
eras.

“It’s hard to compare teams from different years because the demands of the
game are very different.

“In 1994 United had a great team built around the likes of Gary Pallister, Steve
Bruce, Mark Hughes, and Paul Ince and at the time were the best.

“Then the 1999 team was a fantastic generation, with Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes,
Roy Keane, Andy Cole and Dwight Yorke.

“But the game is always changing and in England it’s moving in a different
direction with quality on the ball more important that physical presence.

“Arsenal and United have adapted to this and maybe Chelsea’s problem last
season was that they still relied on a more physical approach.

“Ferguson has always seen the way things have been changing and signing
Ronaldo may have been the best thing he could do.

“He has brought in Nani, who is an incredibly skilful player, and made changes like
replacing Gabriel Heinze with Patrice Evra because of his attacking qualities.

“I’d certainly rather play in this side than have to play against them.”

And United right-back Wes Brown, who was on the bench for the Champions
League Final victory over Bayern Munich, has also backed his manager’s claims.

Brown, 28, said: “This side is right up there with the best.

“The lads are all enjoying themselves and we have a good mix.

“We have young lads, senior players and new signings who are really standing
out.

“The manager has some difficult decisions to make, but I think those who missed
out against Blackburn on Sunday will be delighted to have played in recent
games.” www.dailystar.co.uk
