Louis Saha hopes Wayne Rooney’s misfortune will be the spur to his own new
lease of life at Manchester United.
The injury-ravaged French striker aims to cash in after coming through his first
Premier League start of the season against Blackburn.
“It has been such a long time since I was in the starting line-up and it felt good to
be in there,” said Saha.
“I took advantage of the injury to Wayne and it went smoothly against Blackburn.
I won’t complain about failing to score because the most important thing is the
team won.”
The twisted knee Rooney suffered in training on Friday meant Sir Alex Ferguson
had to shelve plans to use Saha as a sub.
The £12.8m too-often injured star had previously made only one start this season
as he struggled with a long-standing knee condition, for which he had surgery
last May.
“I was in the starting 11 against Roma, but that day I was not at my best,” Saha
said.
With Rooney out for the next three weeks, Saha has the chance to kick-start an
Old Trafford career that has been stop-go since his move from Fulham three
years ago in January.

He is part of one of the most exciting attacks in the club’s history yet, at 29, one
of the older members.
Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo, at 22, and 23-year-old Carlos Tevez have
fearsome back-up from Nani, 20, and the ageless Ryan Giggs, who is 34 later this
month.
Midfielder Darren Fletcher revealed the freedom Fergie has instilled.
“The manager really wants everyone to be care-free in the sense of expressing
themselves on the pitch, and at the moment we are doing it to great effect,” said
Fletcher.
“We’ve had some great attacks during the time I’ve been around the first team,
but what defines this team’s attack is the youthfulness of it.” www.dailystar.co.uk
