Carrick In Spurs Return Rumour
Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick is being linked with a shock
£18million return to Tottenham in January's transfer window.
Reports in the Telegraph and Daily Mail both claim that new Spurs boss Juande
Ramos would like to have a player like Carrick in his side's engine room after
assessing where things need strengthening in order to turn the club's season
around in the New Year.
And it seems the Spanish tactician will offer United close to the £18.6million they
paid to take Carrick to Old Trafford just 16 months ago.
However, despite Carrick missing out on Steve McClaren's England squad for the
friendly against Austria on Friday and next Wednesday's final Euro 2008 qualifier
against Croatia, he has managed to hold down a regular place in Sir Alex
Ferguson's United side. Therefore the 26-year-old is unlikely to leave a title
-chasing team to join Spurs' struggling ranks.
Carrick has previously expressed a plea for his former Spurs team-mate Dimitar
Berbatov to join him at United, which suggests he is not planning to leave in the
near future.
