Szolanta is a very poor town in Romania.
This is Transylvania, a region which was once controlled by Hungary.
There is one Brother Csaba orphanage in Szolonta already with 30 kids but there
are just no vacancies left.
Recently, the mayor donated 3 abandoned buildings which were used for military
purposes during the communist era.
These buildings will be rebuilt and turned into homes.
Each house will accommodate 20 children and a house mother.
We also plan to put a garden and a small animal farm for the kids.
The house mother in the current orphanage (Hilda) is a very sharp woman who
was herself grown up in a Brother Csaba home before getting a degree in social
work.
The kids Hilda has raised are some of the warmest, respectful and polite kids.
Studying is a key part of the kids’ after school activities. The school is walking
distance from the new orphanage and our goal to get the first building up and
running before school starts in January 2008.
We don't just want to offer them a home, we want to offer them a future.
