It should have been us not Liverpool in the last Champions League final says United star Carrick

Michael Carrick refuses to bite when asked whether Manchester United are
jealous of Liverpool's European success. But his response is telling.

"Seeing Liverpool in the final didn't bother me," he says. "It was more we felt we
should have been there."

Liverpool played their second Champions League final in three years last May.
United lost to Milan in the semi-finals and even though the Italians, not Liverpool,
lifted the trophy, the failure still rankles at Old Trafford.

But another season brings another shot at glory and United have so far swept all
before them as they enter tonight's penultimate group game against Sporting
Lisbon as the only team still with a 100 per cent record.

Victory tonight will see United win Group F with a game to spare but Carrick says
United's ambitions If you win the league you're a good team, but you must win in
Europe to be considered great stretch much further than the last 16.

Sir Alex Ferguson is desperate to add a second European title to his legacy and
his determination has transferred to his players.

"It was great to win the Premier League," Carrick told Metro. "It's okay to win the
league one year and you want to keep that going over two, three, four years.
Then you can say you are a good team.

"But you also want to win in Europe so you are seen as great. That's what we're
aiming for this season."

And despite last weekend's defeat at Bolton, which came without Wayne Rooney
and Cristiano Ronaldo, Carrick believes the current United squad is better
equipped for Europe following the summer signings of Carlos Tevez, Owen
Hargreaves, Nani and Anderson.

"I'd definitely say we've got a better chance this year," Carrick said. "We've got a
great squad. I think what we have got at the moment is a lot of variety.

"We've got matchwinners throughout the side and the way we've defended this
season is very pleasing. At this stage I'd say we're very strong."

Air Asia are the official low-cost airline for Man Utd, flying to more than 80
destinations in Asia and soon to be flying into the UK.
