Seriously. I swear none of them are. There just about all born in Africa and moved to France when there small children. Lets make a list of French players, born and raised in France with French parents. My bet, we dont get more than 3.
I'll start.

Frank Ribery.

Well my "research" wasn't that in depth, but I think being born in France makes you French? I don't have that much of an interest in the French team to go searching the web for more data, but I have also asked myself the same question as Justice before. Even Vieira wasn't born in france

Depends on how much you believe Wikipedia.

On player profiles it usually gives their place of birth and from which nationality they have descended from.

Although even then you have to take into account that this may be referring to grandparents/great grand parents etc rather than their parents.

I'd bet that many of them have dual nationality. Hatem Ben Arfa for example is part Tunisian...even if he was born in France.

Louis Saha is French descended from Guadeloupe....in the West Indies.....

And because Guadeloupe is still a French Province - one of 26 they actually use the Euro, lmao...........nice :)

Dont worry soon we can say the same about the RoI team. "Where any of them born in the Republic or do they all come from Northern Ireland?" now that the Republic can claim any player born in Northern Ireland who hasn't played for Northern Ireland in a match. Thats fair isn't it...........

FIFA need to sort it out only play for the country your born on or if you have parents from the country you wish to play for.

I was playing pro evo last night with france. I looked at their national side... They're all black! I don't think one of the staters was originally French... By the way i'm not talking about race, i'm mentioning their home country. Moulda and Viera are hardly french names now...

Even the coach isn't fully French lol!

Raymond Domenech (born 24 January 1952 in Lyon) is a former French football player and the current manager of the French national team. He is of partly Southern Catalan descent. His father fled Spain during the rule of Francisco Franco. He has two children, Victoire (*2004) and Merlin (*2007) with famous football-specialized sports journalist Estelle Denis.

Yeah bring the old ' Northern Ireland just a bunch of Rangers supporting super Prods' view. Fact is 99.9% of Northern Ireland fans support The Catholics who play for us already yes that right were not some 'super prod sing the sash and the billy boys' fans. If Northern Ireland fans are seen sing songs like the sash they get slaughtered while if Republic fans were to do the equivlent it would only be a 'bit o' craic' and were NORTHERN IRELAND not the 'north'

true not all the northy boys are booin the catholic lads but v few players would play for their country if they had to go thru 90mins of even the small minority abusin them. remember neil lennon was gettin death threats that time?!!
fact is catholic players dont want the hassle and most likely like most catholics up there he prob sees himself as an irish man rather than a brit, the good friday agreement allows him to play for us so leave him at it!!
and sectarian songs are frowned upon at republic matches too, the like of fields of athenry and even sine fianna fail are about wantin the brits out and wantin freedom but ya cant deny us singin them!!

"They're all black"..........."oooh I'm not being racist" :)

We knew that - we're not that bad.......

Viera sounds a little French but some of the other names do seem a bit odd for French....

Once this thread started and I began to think about it......it does seem a bit odd all these guys turned up to play for France....

Yeah i remember Neil Lennon, I was at the match and no I didnt boo in case you are thinking that. LVF send the death threats not the fans who sat in the ground and if i could bring one player back who has left in recent years it would be Neil Lennon a great player nobody can doubt that. They were the minority not the majority who booed Lennon.

Also is it a fact that catholic players don't want to play for Northern Ireland ? I see my self as an Irish man A Northern Irish man.

TGFA is the biggest load of crap ever its denying Northern Ireland the right to have a full team if players want to leave because of political beliefs.

Sectarian songs are frowned upon? Does that mean there still sung but only a minority sing them in the ground? Well i have NEVER heard the Sash or the Billy Boys in side Winsor park in 8 years of going to Northern Ireland football match's.

Also at least have the Respect to call us Northern Ireland WE EXIST.

Sillyt hread with silly EIRE and Northern Ireland discussions, I feel like closing this but how about you look in your own backyard first?

England can easily have an XI and subs whom are all black, now seriously this is pathetic.

I am one who believes in where you are born, then that's your nationality, or at least the country where your whole family was born if you were different. So I am of a similar opinion to what seems like most of you, but a thread on this very open information is a bit silly.

Who's next to target the Netherlands? Australia? Germany?

I think you will find that the rules for who plays for France, is anybody born in any FORMER French Colony is entitled to be considered.

Unlike Eire, who rule that they can go back to Irish grandparents to qualify. Tony Cascarino, who has absolutely zero Irish blood, lied to them about an Irish granny, and he fooled them all.

Tony Cascarino the thicko that he is, stated in his autobiography that he wasn't eligible to play for Ireland by reason of not being actually eligible for Irish citizenship. The Dept. of Foreign Affairs subsequently pointed out that this was based on a misapprehension as to the availability of Irish citizenship to adoptees. Smack on the wrist for the ghost-writer! That will teach him to do a wee bit of very elementary research in future.

"Cascarino was born in England but represented the Republic of Ireland, qualifying through his Irish grandfather. However, he later revealed that his mother told him in 1996 that she was adopted and therefore no blood relative to the grandfather. Cascarino said in his autobiography: "I didn't qualify for Ireland. I was a fraud. A fake Irishman". However, through the adoption his mother gained the right to Irish citizenship and therefore he was indeed eligible"

Interesting extract from wikipedia.
