'Bully Boys' Don't Worry United

MAN UNITED’S stars last night warned the Premier League’s bully boys: “You don’t
frighten us.”

The United players insist Bolton’s physical approach in last weekend’s defeat at
The Reebok Stadium doesn’t mean the champions have become a soft touch.

And they ridiculed the idea that Bolton, with their shock 1-0 victory, had shown
the rest of the league how to beat United.

United face Fulham tomorrow night at Old Trafford.

And Ryan Giggs, the club’s longest-serving player, said: “Nine times out of ten we
overcome a physical approach with our football.

“What Bolton did was nothing new. I’ve seen it down the years where teams try
to kick us, they get men behind the ball and they try to frustrate us. Normally, we
handle it.

“We lost at Bolton because we didn’t play well. It wasn’t down to Bolton being
physical because we are used to that.

“We won’t be using it as an excuse because we know that if we had passed the
ball the way we normally do, then we would probably have got a good result.

“I don’t think the Bolton defeat means we are a soft touch.

“Even the new players aren’t shocked when teams try to play it rough. Lads like
Carlos Tevez and Anderson are no lightweights. They are physically tough and
mentally strong – and they can handle themselves as well.

Giggs added: “Everyone was disappointed after the Bolton game but we know
we now have to go on a run.

“We know we are going to lose games – and we know how to handle it.”

Midfielder Owen Hargreaves echoed the “you-won’t-bully-us” theme and pointed
to strongman defender Nemanja Vidic as a reason why United won’t be
intimidated.

And Vidic, who missed the Reebok defeat through injury, said: “Bolton always
play that type of a game. We lost that one, but we don’t lose many. But if you
lose a game, the important thing is to win your next one, which we did against
Sporting Lisbon. What matters now is that we beat Fulham, because that is our
next league game.

“We can’t afford to lose many games but the top four will lose points this season
because the other teams are stronger and have signed good players.”

Giggs, meanwhile, accepts that he won’t play in every match for United this
season.

He said: “I was 34 last Thursday, so I don’t expect to play every match. But
because of that, and the fact I retired from international football, I feel fresh.

“I know I will get plenty of games this season.”
