Manchester United's Munich kit

Manchester United will wear a special one-off kit to mark the 50th anniversary of
the Munich air disaster when they play local rivals Manchester City.

United will wear a 1950sstyle kit, free of sponsors' logos, player names and with
traditional numbering from one to 11, when they face City at Old Trafford on
February 10.

The kit, which will adhere to United's customary home strip of red shirt, white
shorts and black socks, will not be available to buy and only 16 will be made for
the squad for the City game.

United were given special permission by the Premier League to wear the kit and
shirt sponsors AIG also gave their backing. Kit-makers Nike designed the strip.

The City game was chosen because it is the nearest match to the anniversary
and because they provided huge support to Matt Busby's club in the aftermath of
the crash.

A memorial service involving survivors and relatives of those who died will be held
at Old Trafford, timed to coincide with the moment the plane crashed on take-off
from Munich in 1958.

David Gill, United's chief executive, said: "Those who remember say it was
Manchester's Kennedy moment. Everyone knows where they were when the
terrible news came through."www.dailymirror.co.uk
