And how about this team we call Manchester United? We won the Carling Cup which is one more than the previous season and we have finished, or are finishing, with more points that last season but the prize, possibly second place to Tesco's.

Where did United go wrong this season? United do not have the divine right to anything on this earth. They have to war war each game against opposition that want THEIR scalps! United are after all, still THE team to beat.

The season started off with 7 of the first 8 games having NO goals scored against us, a fine start indeed. First points dropped (2) were at home to Man City - OK, a derby game, anything can happen, forget that one.

0-0 followed, away against Liverpool, a team still trying to find both form and pace. But 0-0 at Anfailed - not too bad. Thats 4 points gone, but worthy games.

BBurn came to OT and beat us 2-1 - THREE points down the drain to a crap outfit who should not have been allowed to breath so easily. THREE points GIVEN away

Now 7 points down and its not yet the end of September.

Durting Oct we scrapped wins but cracks were showing, we were conceding far too many goals and Spurs came to OT and stole another 2 points. Thats 9 points given away.

Boror away stuffed us out of sight by 4 goals to 1. Come on! We should have won there, bad team performance, no fire. 12 POINTS Down now.

We redeemed ourselves slightly with a fine 1-0 home win v Chelski. We went on a steady string of wins from then on, not dropping points, but neither were Tesco's. Birmingham away should have been a sure fire away banker but, we dropped another 2 points that should have been ours.

0-0 at Arsenal is a result that we can say we WON a point, in a hard fought game. But, in the race for the title, 2 Points LOST.

Manchester city put what was probably the nail in the coffin and the hammer was raised. We lost again to mediocre opposition, albeit a derby game, 3-1 a game we should have won. Another 3 points lost.

Blackburn AGAIN, did it to us, a game we should have won, but losing 4-3. 3 points LOST.

Since then, and a cup loss to Liverpool along the way, we have won every game except the vital game at The Bridge where they failed to achieve and lost 0-3 in a season we had already lost to Blackburn & Manchester City - THOSE are the games that cost us the League. And, to a lesser extent, Middlesboro.

The 0-0 at home to Sunderland really showed it off perfectly. Tell me we should not have had THREE points there!!! That game was a farce beyond all reasoning!

Lost to teams that should NOT be beating us. It would have literally gone to the death otherwise. Today, at Stamford Bridge United literally surrendered. They were all talk in the press, but thats all it was. We knew in our hearts it would not effect the inevitable and played accordingly.
