Manchester United utility man John O'Shea believes another win over Liverpool at
Anfield could boost the rest of their Premier League campaign.
The Red Devils are currently one point behind leaders Arsenal in the title race,
although the top of the table could be reshaped this weekend in Grand Slam
Sunday.
O'Shea is determined to help maintain United's impressive recent record at Anfield
before putting his feet up and watching Chelsea's mouth-watering trip to
Arsenal.
With a busy festive fixture period on the horizon, O'Shea knows it is important to
get a result on Sunday that could prove vital in the title race come next May.
Major result
"If you get a major result in one of the big games, it can have a massive effect on
your season," said O'Shea.
"The points gap between the top four is not very wide, so the way it is building
up, it could be an important weekend.
"Obviously, there are a lot more twists and turns to come but going into the busy
Christmas period, it would give us a major lift to get a win.
"It would be nice to think we can get three points and then relax and watch the
other game.
"That is why we have to be very focused on getting three points. If we play to our
maximum, we can get them."
O'Shea's injury-time strike separated the sides last season, although the Republic
of Ireland ace is not expecting another fairytale ending this time around.
Special moment
"It was a very special moment," he said. "The goal was amazing enough in the
first place but because it was late in the season and we were pushing for the
league, it just added to the feeling.
"It was one of those things I will cherish because it might not happen again for a
long time.
"My first thought was to get the ball in the net because I knew I would get
hammered by the rest of the lads if I missed. After that, I just wanted to get
away from the Kop and down to the other end of the field as quickly as possible."
