Newcastle mess baffles Fergie

Alex Ferguson shook his head with familiar incredulity as he pondered the latest
twist in the Newcastle United soap opera: Sam Allardyce sacked as Harry
Redknapp weighs up whether to become the club's fourth new manager in a little
more than three years. "It is a strange club," the Manchester United manager
said.

Ferguson touched on some of the myths surrounding Newcastle -- notably a
tradition of cavalier football that appears to be founded on a purple patch in the
mid-1990s -- and ventured that Allardyce had been prejudged on his arrival from
Bolton Wanderers. He also suggested that Mike Ashley, the Newcastle owner,
had been taking advice from "non-football people" and painted the picture of a
club unmanageable in every sense -- food for thought for Redknapp.

So would Ferguson advise the Portsmouth manager -- like Allardyce, a close
friend -- against taking the job? "I think Harry is intelligent enough to know what
he is doing," Ferguson said. "But it will be a difficult choice for him. He has a
wonderful set-up at Portsmouth, a lovely house on the coast, his wife is settled
there, so there's a big decision to make.

"But we're all vain enough to think we can do things. That's a problem in life
today, whether it's football, the retail sector or any industry -- whenever you
have a chance of moving up the ladder, you think, 'I can do that.' Certainly, Harry
would have been disappointed that he didn't get the England job. Maybe he will
feel the time is right to take this one."

But is he the right man for the job? "The thing that amazes me is that he has the
same CV as Sam in terms of experience, presence, popularity and the great jobs
both have done before," Ferguson said. "The difference is that Sam wasn't Mike
Ashley's appointment, whereas Harry would be." www.independent.ie

There is nothing mysterious about it. The team is pathetic and needs to be dumped en masse.

This all commenced when a certain player joined Newcastle. He was "the main man" and everyone, including the Chairman, bowed to his whims. What he said went and the managers had nothing to do with it. The situation worsened when Sir Bobby Robson dropped him for "off field activities". The player went ballistic and ran to the Chairman who ran to Robson and told him to reinstate him but the damage was done. The player in question is arrogance personified.

The player had this "brat pack" running at Newcastle. He ruled the team and players did nothing without consulting the "boss".

This was evident, in front of witnesses on a number of occasions:

1. Bar in hotel in London. The player and his "pack" were drinking. He rolled up a £20 into a ball and flicked it off the face of the barman telling him that "here, this is more than you earn in a fortnight".

2. Lounge in hotel in Midlands. Team assembled in lounge for pre match talk from Sir Bobby. The "pack leader" told the players when Sir Bobby came in they were to turn their backs on him and ignore him. The manager walked in and all the players looked to the "pack leader" who signalled "turn around"; which they did, all showing backs to the manager.

THIS is the problem at Newcastle. Until all are replaced with players dedicated to the "cause" like Nicky Butt (who always gives 100%) them player power at Newcastle means no power on the field. The instigator has gone but the influence is still there.

I know the second for fact as this happened in front of my own wife. The first was repeated across the unofficial airwaves by the barman and mentioned in the press too. There is no record of whether the barman kept the £20.
