It hurts says Geordie Carrick
GEORDIE boy Michael Carrick admitted it hurt him to see Newcastle United on the
wrong end of a 6-0 drubbing at Old Trafford on Saturday.
But the Manchester United midfielder also confessed that he left the ground
disappointed that he had not scored against the team he supported as a boy –
and still supports.
Carrick was one of two Geordies on the field but United put a block on their
players talking after the game so Steven Taylor’s thoughts must stay to himself.
However Carrick emerged from a happy Manchester United dressing room to tell
me: “I am heading back home to Wallsend for a couple of days and nobody need
tell me that it is going to be doom and gloom up there.
“And as a Geordie it is hurting me as well.
“But I am a Manchester United player and I have to say that our boss was not
happy with us a half-time.
“Yet after that I also have to say that the way we played in the second half no
team would have lived with us and I hope that is of some consolation to all my
pals who are United fans.”
Carrick was the man who started the move with led to Manchester United’s third
goal and he also saw a goal-bound shot cleared off the line by United left back
Jose Enrique midway through the second half.
This led Carrick to add: “I have scored for Spurs against Sunderland but I have
never got one against United and that was the closest I have got.”
