Wes Brown hoping to impress Fabio Capello

Twenty-eight-year-old Manchester United defender Wes Brown is determined to
force his way into Fabio Capello's first England squad.

Despite refusing to sign a new £50,000-a-week deal at Old Trafford, Brown has
been a virtual ever-present for Sir Alex Ferguson this season.

Eye-catching? Wes Brown hopes to be in Fabio Capello's England squad for the
game against Switzerland

Brown missed Saturday's 5-0 defeat of Newcastle as he served a one-match ban
after picking up five bookings.

However, he was part of the Premier League Champions' defence that kept a
clean sheet in the FA Cup at Aston Villa, the first game Capello saw live after
succeeding Steve McClaren as manager.

The defender will almost certainly be restored to Ferguson's line up for Saturday's
trip to Reading.

With only two more games to play after that before Capello unveils his squad to
face Switzerland on Feb 6, Brown is optimistic of being involved.

He said: "Hopefully that's the case. If I can stay in the United team and continue
to play well then hopefully I can get an England call up."

Brown won the last of his 14 caps in the friendly win over Austria in November,
since when he has become embroiled in a surprising stand-off over his new
contract.

Even though Ferguson has made it quite plain United will not be improving their
current offer, the Longsight-born player has refused to sign, raising the
possibility of him leaving his only professional club on a free transfer in the
summer. www.telegraph.co.uk
