UNITED ARE A SAFE BET FOR READING WIN
Having seen Arsenal record a 1-1 draw earlier in the afternoon, Manchester
United knew a win against Newcastle would hand them top spot.
The fact that they subsequently smashed six second-half goals past the hapless
Magpies was not lost on bookies such as Canbet who quickly slashed United's
Championship odds to 4/7.
Sir Alex Ferguson's men should justify that reduction this weekend at the
Madejski Stadium where they look a safe bet at 4/9 (betdirect) to accrue three
points at Reading's expense.
The Royals, 8/1 with Partybets to throw the title race wide open again, are solid
enough at home but have tasted defeat there on four occasions.
United, therefore, won't fear a trip to Berkshire and, like three of the four sides
that have beaten Reading in their own backyard, the Red Devils can command a
lead at both the interval and the final whistle (evens, Coral.co.uk).
Given Reading's poor defensive record, which surprisingly equals Derby County's,
not to mention the form of Cristiano Ronaldo - 7/2 (Betdaq) to notch the opener
here - this is a contest that surely promises more than 2.5 goals (4/6, Blue
Square). Bet365's 13/10 for the visitors to prevail by at least a two-goal margin
meanwhile, provides a decent-priced alternative to an outright bet on the visitors.
The Gunners, now 3/1 to top the pile with VCBet, should make up for last week's
disappointment and keep the heat on United by seeing off Fulham at Craven
Cottage.
Arsene Wenger's side are 8/15 with Blue Square to make the short journey back
to North London with a maximum haul and, like their title rivals, Arsenal can also
be ahead as each half is brought to a close (5/4, bet365).
Roy Hodgson's charges (13/2, Canbet) are winless in ten in the league and will
struggle to handle Arsenal's movement so even with a goal start in the
handicaps they seem destined for defeat at the hands of the Gunners; 27/20
(Sportingbet) to account for that artificial advantage.
Not helped by a widening rift between owners and management Liverpool could
drop to seventh if they lose to Aston Villa - a result bet365 quote at 11/2.
However, despite the ongoing off-field crisis, Liverpool, Blue Square's 8/13
favourites, have been beaten just twice in the league and so a damaging
reverse seems unlikely.
As half of their Anfield matches and the same number of Villa's away clashes have
finished all-square, Sportingbet's 13/5 for the spoils to be shared and the 11/2
Coral.co.uk post against another 1-1 scoreline stand out, especially as Martin
O'Neill's men have lost just once on the road.
Everton's hard-fought victory over Manchester City made them Betfred's 2/1
favourites to finish highest in the Premiership when the 'big four' are taken out of
the equation but the Toffees won't find life easy against improving Wigan (2/1,
Partybets).
Subsequently, despite attractive odds of 27/20 (Canbet) for an away win, punters
might be better served backing the Toffees to snare a point only (9/4, VCBet).
Elsewhere, bet365 could pay for pricing Chelsea at 4/6 to see off Birmingham at
St Andrews but, remarkably, the weekend's five remaining fixtures should all
result in home wins.
Betfred make Blackburn 8/11 to send Middlesbrough home empty-handed,
Portsmouth are 2/5 with Sportingbet to cure their home scoring woes by beating
Derby while Tottenham (4/9, betdirect), Newcastle (10/11, Partybets) and Man
City (21/20, Canbet) can overcome Sunderland, Bolton and West Ham
respectively. www.thisistamworth.co.uk
