Everton lift the lid on Rooney's Man United transfer!
Everton Chairman Bill Kenwright has lifted the lid on the details surrounding
Wayne Rooney's transfer to Manchester United.
Kenwright has revealed how the club held no end of meetings to keep hold of the
young striker but it was phone call from Rooney himself in tears that convinced
the club to sell the striker to United for £25 million.
Kenwright explained to the Liverpool Echo: "I had phone calls and death threats
and people saying that Rooney didn't want to leave the club.
"At the same time I've got Rooney - who is a smashing lad - on the phone to me
crying and saying: 'Please, I've got to leave Liverpool'. People were claiming I
was lying but David Moyes and I had 15 meetings to try and keep Rooney. I've
worked 15, 16 hours a day and I've never understood this thing called
breakdown - but you can when you get in some of these situations.
"I was never in a position where I couldn't take it but it did get close."
