Fletcher denies Man Utd exit plan

Fletcher has made just six starts this season

Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher has insisted he wants to stay with
the Premier League champions despite losing his place in the side.

The 23-year-old Scot has been linked with a move to Birmingham after falling out
of favour at Old Trafford.

But Fletcher said: "I am still happy playing for Manchester United and I am not
thinking of going elsewhere.

"I never heard anything about Birmingham being interested - I just want to be
here for a long time."

Fletcher's former international manager Alex McLeish is reported to be considering
a move to lure him south to the Blues.

But while Fletcher admits he is disappointed to be out of the side, he is confident
of being given further opportunities to impress by Sir Alex Ferguson.

"It is frustrating because any player wants to play," he added.

"My only focus is on being ready when the manager needs me and being able to
perform for the club when asked."

Brazilian midfielder Anderson's summer arrival from Porto has restricted Fletcher's
first-team opportunities and Saturday's late appearance against Newcastle was
only his 15th appearance of the season, nine of which have been as substitute.

"Basically, it has been down to the form of the midfield. Fair play to Anderson,
when Paul Scholes got injured, he came in and has been in great form.

"The manager has stuck by him, which is what he does when you perform well,
and has had a run in the team.

"We will see how things pan out at the end of the season in terms of games
played and what you have contributed to the squad. But I am not thinking about
that just now." www.bbc.co.uk
