Real admit defeat in players' pursuit

Real Madrid sporting director Predrag Mijatovic admits it is virtually impossible that
either Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo or Arsenal midfielder Cesc
Fabregas would be playing for the Spanish giants in the future.

Both players have been linked with Real over the last couple of years, but the duo
have each committed themselves to long-term contracts with their respective
clubs.

Portuguese ace Ronaldo agreed a five-year contract extension with United last
year, tying him to Old Trafford until 2012, while Spaniard Fabregas penned an
eight-year contract with Arsenal in 2006.

"Of course it would not be bad for us to have a player like Cristiano Ronaldo, but
he is at a great club like Manchester United. I see it as an impossible signing,"
Mijatovic told Radio Marca.

On the possibility of signing Fabregas, who was one of Real president Ramon
Calderon's transfer promises when he was running for election in 2006, Mijatovic
said: "He is the same.

"We are not the only team who would like to have a player such as Cesc, but he
belongs to a great club like Arsenal and it is almost impossible to sign him.

"I am very clear that we are not going to waste time on things which we cannot
do.

"We will see what happens in the future. It is undeniable that he is as a very
interesting player, but signing him is something that would be tremendously
difficult." www.itv-football.co.uk
