The mere mention of "United want you" used to be enough to make many a player begin to pack his bags for the train/car to Manchester. But this is no longer the case. The likes of globalisation, Real Madrid, Barcelona and, at home, Chelski's bottomless money pit, has relegated United to the back of the queue regarding "big" buys.

The clubs reluctance to pay big money and massive salaries is good in one respect but its starving us of getting at least three or four necessary players in vital positions.

But this need not be the case. There is immense talent floating around in the lower leagues. When Busby was in charge, he had scouts watching a hell of a lot of lower league games and brought in talent which blossomed into full internationals. And they cost peanuts compared with so called "superstars".

Docherty had the same idea and brought the likes of the Greenhoff brothers, Stuart Pearson and Steve Coppell from lower league teams and many more who went on to become internationals.

We should be following this path more diligently. Not only will it save United money but it will give the talent that swims beneath us hope that they too could make it, instead of looking at the top and seeing only foreigners earning money that they could only dream of.

There are literally dozens of players that have played for United who have been spotted in lower divisions. They all became stars and shone in their new colours.

It doesn't matter were they come from, as soon as it is Man United interested the price increases. I agree that there is alot of talent in the lower leagues just waiting to be found, in most cases it is.
