Ferguson backing Ramos to turn Spurs around

Sir Alex Ferguson sees parallels between his own managerial style and that of

Sir Alex Ferguson sees parallels between his own managerial style and that of
Juande Ramos, the new Tottenham boss who will cross swords with his
Manchester United counterpart in Saturday's Premier League clash.

Ferguson has been impressed with Ramos' work since arriving at White Hart
Lane. The Spaniard has guided Spurs up the Premiership table and also taken
them to the League Cup final, in which they will face Chelsea later this month.

United may have beaten Spurs side 3-1 in the FA Cup at Old Trafford last
weekend but Ferguson is expecting a tough test of his side's credentials on their
visit to north London.

He has been particularly impressed with the ideas that Ramos has quickly
imposed on his new players.

Ferguson said: "I have read about his discipline in terms of the regime of diet and
the intake of alcohol and that type of thing.

"These are things I had to broach myself when I came down here and he's right.
He's 100 percent correct.

"His record at Seville stands testimony. There's no doubt about that.

"There's a wind of change at Tottenham right now, we saw that when we last
played them.

"It was a different game than we're used to at Old Trafford, lots of goals. Usually
they're reserved for White Hart Lane. Hopefully, we can get the result we want."

Despite United's powerful recent form and the fact that Arsenal are closer to them
in the table, Ferguson still believes that Chelsea have a role to play in the title
race.

He expects both rival clubs to grow stronger as their players return from the
African Nations Cup.

He added: "It's getting really tight now. Chelsea have four players back from
Africa Nations Cup after Feb 10. They could have one or two back next week.

"It all depends on how the quarter-finals go. Arsenal have two players there with
the Ivory Coast, who are looking favourites for the tournament.

"We all become selfish and so I'm hoping it's an Ivory Coast v Ghana final, to
keep Arsenal and Chelsea's players occupied.

"It's no use kidding, Avram Grant and Arsene Wenger know fine well what I'm
hoping for. In fact, I hope it goes to extra-time, penalties and maybe even a
replay!"

Ferguson expects Gary Neville to step up his training once again next week as he
continues his attempts to return from months out with injury and also believes
that the French striker Louis Saha will return soon.

The Scot insisted there was never any chance of defender Wes Brown, who is out
of contract in the summer, leaving Old Trafford in the January transfer window.

With Paul Scholes and Park Ji-Sung now both fit, Ferguson is delighted with the
competition for places he has in midfield.

He said: "People have talked about us not making any signings in January but
we've got Scholes back fit and Park is also and they can be like two new signings
for us." www.soccerways.com
