Today's my first day on this forum. I was curious about this site as someone claimed that it is poised to become the biggest Man United fan forum site. Maybe it will; maybe it won't; maybe if I helped; maybe… oh, never mind.

I'll just make a quick introduction to everyone. I've been a Man United fan for donkey's years now (that translates to almost three decades in human years :D). I hail from a teeny-weeny island in Asia located at latitude 1º22´ North and longitude 103º48´ East.

I use the handle, Osiris (the Egyptian God of Death) because it also contains the name Iris (the Egyptian Goddess of Life). So, I believe my handle signifies "Life and Death", or "Black and White", or "Yin and Yang", or… you get the idea. :)

My avatar is a skull on fire. (For those interested in etymology, the word "avatar" is a contraction of the Sanskrit "avatara" and it means manifestation or incarnation.) This icon serves a twofold representation.

First, it is a tribute to Manchester United (naturally). The skull looks devilish enough and the flames make it red (almost).

Secondly, it is a graphic representation of my own handle. The skull represents death and the flames represent life. For those who are wandering where I got that crazy notion from, here's an excerpt from Craig Hamilton-Parker's The Hidden Meaning of Dreams:

"Fire destroys, but it also cleanses and purifies. It can illuminate, but it also causes pain. It's energy is a potent symbol of ETERNAL LIFE…."

Right, now that I've bored almost everyone who reads this post to tears with a lot of useless information, it's time I bid adieu.

But I shall return.

What a 40-yard stunner that fractured Alumnia's fingers, bulged the net and yet retained enough power and energy to bounce back off to hit the already-wretched keeper on his head, knocking him out cold for a good ten minutes.

Arb-sa-loot-ly the best hello thread I have read, setting a bench mark for the section.

After all the attributes and accolades, er... wanna help an IT idiot set up an avatar of equal standing that can make him proud?;) :D :o

Welcome, mate.:)

It's almost twenty-four hours since my inaugural post and as promised, I'm back. Before messing around in the other areas, I just wanted to thank everyone — an overwhelming 0.0027% of the forum's members — for reading my post and for the warm welcome to the site. And my blushes too, for the compliments.

And thanks also, especially to Red Devil, fellow Egyptology aficionado, for not pointing out that blatant and embarrassing error in my post.

I use the handle, Osiris (the Egyptian God of Death) because it also contains the name Iris (the Egyptian Goddess of Life).

Iris, as everybody knows, was the Greek Goddess of the Rainbow who also — probably out of boredom, for how many rainbows could she put up across the horizon in a year? — doubled up as the Messenger of the Gods. Of course, I meant Isis. The error, I believe, arose out of the similarities of the two names and because the word "Iris" is plainly evident in "Osiris" whereas "Isis" is anagrammatic. And I must also plead that my own irises must have been somewhat overworked to have failed to notice the boo-boo when I actually read the post a few times before submission.

To Jazz 16:

I Hope you stick around and I look forward to future discussions and debates with you.

Discussions, no problem. But, I'd rather not debate. Debates usually end up in the casting of votes to declare the winner and the votes will probably end up in a tie. Then we'll need a tie-breaker and someone's tie has to be… trust me, debates are a waste of time.

To Keano4taoiseach:

If you know half as much information about avatars as you fo MUFC, I am sure you will fit right in!!!

Gee, I don't know. I keep learning something new almost everyday, and the more I learn, the more I realise my own ignorance. If things go on as they have been, I'll probably be the greatest ignoramus in the world by the turn of the decade, which is less than three years away.

And it's a good thing this is a mail forum, or I'll be stumbling all over the shop trying to pronounce that unpronounceable handle of yours.

To SALFORD RED:

I bet you could talk the back legs of a dead donkey.

Er… I have not tried it, but thanks for having that confidence in me. Tell you what. Let me find a dead donkey and give it a try first. Till then, just to be on the safe side, hold off on that bet whyn't you?

To Versa:

What a 40-yard stunner that fractured Alumnia's fingers, bulged the net and yet retained enough power and energy to bounce back off to hit the already-wretched keeper on his head, knocking him out cold for a good ten minutes.

Who the h-e-double-toothpicks — excuse my French —is Alumnia? You don't mean Joaquin Alumnia, the EU’s Monetary Affairs Commissioner, do you?

Arb-sa-loot-ly the best hello thread I have read, setting a bench mark for the section.

Gosh, that's really too much; you're making a fountain out of a ****. Oops, I meant a mountain out of a molehill.

After all the attributes and accolades, er... wanna help an IT idiot set up an avatar of equal standing that can make him proud?

Er… why not? I'm an obliging specimen of the genus Homo sapiens sapiens. But you've got to tell me more? Should the icon be a representation of your handle? And what exactly is the meaning of your handle? It's not short for the French palace, Versailles, is it? Not short for versant, I shouldn't think. Tell me more — like your dreams, aspirations and fantasies (just kidding :D ) — and we'll work out something.

Or, you can create something of your own. The specs given are that the avatar should be 80 pix × 80 pix or should not exceed 19.5 kb.

Okie-dokie. This post took a longer time that I thought it would. So, farewell once again folks. You should see me in the other areas of the forum soon doing what I do best, i.e., being a pain in everyone's gluteus maximus.

Hi and welcome Osiris!
Without gazing at a world atlas, I guess you're from Chinese Taiwan for the information you gave: Island in Asia, "Yin and Yang" ("Heaven and Earth" in English or "Âm Dương" in Vietnamese), a philosophical theory of Universe and the way it is, which originated in China; in Physics, we got Einstein's General theory of Relativity and Quantum Mechanics to describe all the world's phenomenon.
Looking forward to talking with you online, matey.
