DAVID BECKHAM will return to Old Trafford in March - to face Manchester United in a charity match.
Beckham, who fell out with manager Sir Alex Ferguson and was eventually sold to Real Madrid for £25 million three years ago, has been lined up to play for a European Select XI in a charity match to celebrate 50 years of United in European competition and 50 years since the foundation of the European Union. Ferguson joked "I’ll put Gabriel Heinze up against him".
Beckham has been given clearance by Real Madrid to take part in the game, on Tuesday March 13 next year, playing under the management of Italy’s World Cup coach Marcello Lippi. Lippi said: ‘I accepted the invitation immediately. I’m delighted by the prospect and looking forward to taking on my great friend Sir Alex Ferguson.
